Nebraska fires Bo Pelini

I hope they have no interest in CM.

One thing I think really damaged Bo were the blowout defeats. Even winning 9 games consistently does not make up for getting absolutely torched by a team like Wisconsin twice in a three year period. NU defenses of the 80's/90's under Osbourne/McBride were year in year out quite elite nationally.

In the old days, Nebraska's huge attendance gave the a financial advantage over most Big 8 teams. With TV money now dominant, they have to compete on an even financial basis with B10 teams.
Location: horrible weather in the middle of nowhere
Academics: not horrible, but below most B10 schools
Recruiting: with ginormous OL and DL no longer the recipe to winning, they don't have enough local talent to build the "elite" program that boosters demand.
While they should remain a good program (based upon tradition and fan support), the fans demands are going to be hard to meet.

I cannot imagine NU was ever an attractive location for some of 4 and 5 star guys they used to get. Some from the Metroplex (i.e Turner Gil). It was Osbourne who worked hard and sold them on the program in those days. It is still possible to recruit an elite athlete to NU.
Do not see academics as relevant. Yes, Nebraska is behind behind the Michigan/Illinois/Nwesterns of the world academically but so are a number of big 10 schools. Not relevant to the vast majority of elite football recruits.
The game has changed but Nebraska can adapt. Osbourne did it in the 90's and weathered a lot of early storms in the 70s to build a consistent top 10 team.
A tough job but with the right HC Nebraska is a sleeping giant imho.

No, there is legitimate concern. Nebraska!
