Perhaps HCCM could poach some players off their roster that could be immediately eligible in 2015? They were 6-6 in CUSA this year, so not terrible. Only one player from TX on their roster, though.

It's going to happen more and more. Too many programs, especially among programs that can't afford them (plus the offsetting Title IX sports).

Pitiful. The president of UAB has handled it like a coward.

If the Board of Trustees for UT controlled the TAMU budget, the Aggies might not have football either.
UAB shares a Board with Roll Tide. Allegedly, Roll Tide board members have tried to cripple UAB for years.

Why would Bama board members give two rips about UAB? They have never been and never will be competition for Alabama. That's just pathetic

Very sad. When I was in Birmingham for our bowl game I ran into many UAB fans and they couldn't have been nicer. Good people and they are very proud of their school.

That would be like Joe Jamail trying to get rid of UNT's football program

Just the first of many G5 schools that will forced to make this decision. Very sad for UAB and the program.

Hopefully this will allow UAB to put more money into basketball as they have always had a solid basketball program.

But where do they get that money without any football TV money?
I know C-USA TV money is peanuts but it's still a lot of money.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nc ... /19702899/Barring a last-minute reversal in the decision-making process, it's unclear what shutting down football would mean for UAB's athletic future. Another person with direct knowledge of Conference USA matters told USA TODAY Sports that the league's commissioner, Britton Banowsky, did not have enough support among school presidents to keep UAB in the league without football.
There is no known backup plan for UAB's other sports.
Yikes.
