Looking at the list blackoutpony made, it does not look like we have many remaining scholarships left for next year. I was not sure who was on scholarship and who was not, but there are not many more seniors than there are current commits.
I assume Morris is not going to start cutting people that have been committed for months, especially given his relationship with Texas coaches.
Even if he calls some of the recruits and tells them that he doesn't think they will fit into his system, why would they de-commit if they have no other offers? Unless that is not how it works.
How many players do you think Morris is going to actually have room to recruit in this class? Even if we have several de-commits, I can't imagine he has room for many.
Like I said in another thread, we need June to take the UNLV job, and take several commits and transfers with him.
Maybe I do not know how it works when a new coach takes over, but I am hoping Morris can take a class full of his own recruits.
Do you think we have have several transfers this year?

Proche and LaMont Johnson. That's about it.

You're right that's not how this works. We have 25 scholarships, the players that committed to June are of no consequence.

I am just thinking of how butthurt the east texas coach got when June cut a Bennett commit, and I would imagine Morris doesn't do that.
So I'm wondering if he takes a large class in the anticipation of lots of transfers/violations of team rules.

We will have 15 schollys + normal attrition (5ish) to give without cutting anyone. If he pushed out 5 people, we are at the max. Expect 20 guys in this class + a grey shirt or 2.
Many of the current signees go to schools with shitloads of talent. We aren't going to burn those bridges over a couple of scholarships.
Come Spring practice, he'll know who won't work hard in the weight room, who isn't coachable, and who just can't play. Figure 5 guys don't make it to the Fall team.

I counted 32 RsJr or RSSr on that list. Many names of which I've never heard of. I'm sure there will be a handful of guys who are told to just graduate.

Remember this is Chad Morris we're talking about not June Jones. Morris will purge most of the class and bring in his own guys up to the maximum of 25. Our recruiting efforts in Texas will not be hurt at all.

Don't know what these kids could realistically expect from SMU.
The HC who recruited them quit on the team some 2 months ago, giving them ample time to find other options.
I don't think SMU owes them anything, although I do hope it was communicated to them that all bets were off once 'ba-tou' quit on us.

LOL...only way he doesn't sign 25 in February is if he's waiting for late spring bargains. 25 new faces see campus by August.

Good point, I did not think about RsJr's

Chad Morris could sign a better class in 2 months (with 1 month a Dead Period) than June and his staff could working all year-AND Morris and staff will have more contacts with recruits

Are there that many uncommitted good players at this point that he would have a chance with?

I don't think it'll come to this, but UAB might have a couple of "DITR" transfers if their program folds.

He won't. He will try to raid P5 schools like Kansas of their Texans. They have a commit from a big WR from Desoto with plenty of offers including Clemson.
