How long will Coach Morris stay here?

Postby Oldmins » Mon Dec 01, 2014 7:48 pm

Just to look at it realistically, how long do you think Coach Morris will stay at SMU? Since he graduated from A & M 22 years ago, he has coached at five Texas High schools, moving up a level from one to the next before going to Tulsa, where he expressed his hope of staying forever. Then left after one year to go to Clemson. So that's seven jobs in 23 years, each one a promotion. So let's enjoy coach Morris while we can. Any kind of good job and one of the Power 5 conference schools will be the next possible destination.

Isn't it a little early for this. You'd be looking likely at a big 12 school in Texas + a&am. He'd need to show progress over at least 2-3 yrs. it's also a function of how well the other teams do. A lot of the current coaches are either just hired (strong, kingsbury) or the team is doing well (briles, Patterson).

This is so SMU. He's been our coach for four hours and we're asking how long he will be here. Unbelievable.

Considering the shape we're in it'll be three years minimum before he'll have done enough to get a P5 job.

Unbelievable-that's how a high school coach climbs the ladder

He really is an Art Briles starter kit like the DMN says-Briles has a eerily similar resume

Success at a couple of tiny Texas "1 stop lite" schools

First head coaching position at the Eustace , where he led that high school team to an 11-1 record in his final season-Move Up to

Elysian High School where teams advanced to the state championship game in each of his two seasons as the head coach, while posting a 26-6 two-year record. Move up to

Bay City-win State Championship. Move up to

Stephenville-outstanding success there-move up to

Lake Travis-win 2 State Titles-allows huge almost unprecedented jump to

Offensive Coordinator at Tulsa-where they won about 6 more games in first year-move up to

Offensive Coordinator at Clemson-National Coordinator of the Year-move up to

SMU Head Coach-days before your 46th Birthday with over 20 years experience

This guy has done it the hard way and won BIG at every level-IMMEDIATELY-3 State Titles, about 5 state title games, National Coordinator of the Year and Highest Paid Coordinator in the United States-and grew up just down the highway from SMU. HOMERUN. This is a Football Coach that knows his craft

I think Mrydel says OldM is TCU.

Not very knowledgable about how coaching works so it's probably true.

I'd be [deleted] ecstatic if CM was worth 6 games or more for us next year

As long as he wants to! Why couldn't he be our Patterson?????.....or Baylor's Briles????

Take the same route, get SMU into P5, get paid, stick around till his early 60's, retire a Dallas Texas SMU hero.

Why not?
