Morris was recruiting Virgil - high 3-star duel-threat QB from West Mesquite. He currently holds 11 offers, including SMU. His offer list is very impressive - Clemson, SMU, Arizona St, Nebraska, UCLA, Texas, Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Boise and Missouri. Go get him, Coach!

Billy has a free story up on Scout and he mentions Virgil.

“@BillyEmbody: FREE: Chad Morris is officially at #SMU, but what's next for Morris? I break down where he has to go from here! http://smu.scout.com/story/1487348-five ... o-do?s=357”

Hey y'all, Clemson and newly-made SMU fan in South Carolina here. Loved "the Chad" at Clemson and really excited to follow him at his next step! Somewhat familiar with SMU as I have a sister who lived in Dallas for a few years. Beautiful school and girls too..reminded me a lot of Clemson in that regard. 8)

I'm a die-hard Clemson alum and follow our recruiting closely. I don't want to step on any fingers or anything, but thought I'd share some info.

Morris has been on Chason Virgil for a long time. One of our first QB offers in the 2015 if I recall. They have a really good relationship, and he probably would have committed to Clemson if we didn't have a stud QB right down the road from us (Kelly Bryant). I think Chason kind of cooled on Clemson a little or vice versa when we pressed for Bryant, so Virgil committed to Miss St.

Was scheduled to be an early enrollee @ Miss St (aka he graduates High School like...tomorrow or sometime soon) until they cut him loose last week. Really sketchy and deadbeat move on their part, but obviously opened Virgil's recruiting back up with little time to make a decision.

Think Louisville might be the team to beat here, as he visited there last week and they have had some injuries at QB. Wouldn't rule him out for SMU as he loves Morris, but it's probably too little too late, unless he decides to delay enrollment and stay in high school another semester. Will be interesting to follow for sure.

Think the real name to watch for SMU is Bowman Sells -- Class of 2016 QB for Lovejoy HS in Allen. Excellent relationship with Morris and Morris loves the kid. Clemson had a 2016 QB commit early or we'd probably stay after him. I'd imagine Morris will stay on Sells hard and try to make him the bellcow of the 2016 class.

Anyways, sorry for the blog haha. Look forward to interacting with y'all and following SMU in the coming months and years!

Stars aligning?

Maybe the good Lord really is a Mustang-- or has a sense of humor. Tough to tell.

Thanks for this we all really appreciate it. Are there any other targets (of Clemson's) that you could see Morris getting to SMU?

Appreciate the warm welcome! Not sure if Virgil got hurt or not, but even if he did, that's just unheard of to pull a commit's offer so late in the game . I guess technically MissSt offered to grayshirt him, but you just don't do that. Will absolutely come back to hurt Mullen and staff on the recruiting trail.

As far as potential Morris targets, don't really think there will too many from a Clemson perspective other than Virgil and Sells. Chad is an excellent QB evaluator -- was on Deshaun Watson his freshman year of HS. I doubt SMU will have too many problems attracting some solid QB and skill position options with Morris running the show.

He has been mentioned before, but look no further than DeSoto High and Tristen Wallace for our 2016 class bell cow. Get this kid early and allow him to help recruit other top DFW prospects to lead the renaissance of their hometown team.

6"3", 220 lbs, 3 star Dual-Threat with offers already from Indiana, Nebraska, Ohio State, SMU, TxTech & UCLA.

Oh, by the way, parents both SMU grads!

If I'm Morris, DeSoto High and this kid are my first stop on the recruiting trail tomorrow.

Wow, thanks for the info. Just looked up some film on this kid. Very talented. FWIW 247 has him as a 4 star both in their rankings and composite.
Sounds like a tough pull going up against those schools, but I guarantee you Morris won't back down. He went toe-to-toe with just about every big program in the Southeast for Deshaun Watson.

Like I said...don't think y'all will be worrying too much about QB and the skill positions!

I would think Sells is our best shot. The assistant coach/offensive coordinator at Lovejoy is a former assistant of Morris' at Lake Travis
