What conference are we moving to?

We are witnessing a commitment to football and basketball unseen since the death penalty. This is not only in donor money but also in administration buy in.

This would not be happening without a realistic path to P5. Who is it?

Could it be Big12, which seems unlikely but TCU added nothing when they were added. Perhaps a defensive move to keep someone out?

Perhaps the SEC wants into Dallas to leverage A&M and give a Vanderbilt-style breather for the west teams? There WAS the SEC/SMU meeting in the last round that generated the infamous SMU to SEC tweet.

Maybe PAC ACC or BIG10 wants in to Texas?

Lets win a conference title before we start thinking about this....again.

I think it's just posturing/a last ditch effort rather than a sign that we have an offer.

The only conference that would take us right now would be the sun belt.

We haven't won anything and still only have 15K "paid" fans for home games. Until we have enough eye balls willing to watch, we're not worth anything $$$ wise to another conference for TV purposes. That's the only thing causing re-alignment right now.

SMU administration, fans, donors, etc. need to realize that this is probably our LAST chance at this. The P5 door is closing and we have very little room for error. We all know what SMU is capable, as do many other officials throughout the industry. The problem is that until we have a winning product in both basketball and football, none of that matters. This is the best, and last, opportunity for us to get in. HCCM and LB are as good of a duo to lead this charge as anyone else could ever dream of. We can help them by showing up to matches and supporting these guys.

I will note that our AD's father is an SEC AD. First competent AD selection made in decades. I wonder who helped us pick him?

SEC West needs SMU in a bad way. But not the way we'd like to be needed

At best I think this is just to keep us in the conversation whenever the next round of realignment happens (yes, I believe there will be at least 1 more major shift). Before that happens you will see some schools that continue to show monetary commitment and some that run out of gas. This will keep us in the first group.

I don't have many contacts, but I have one good one. We are definitely on the B12 list, but not at the top of the list. If we get in, it is because they decided to add 2 teams and we are the easy "extra."

So true. As bad as Pye was the ADs were bad as well - Forest Gregg not withstanding. Copeland had us stuck in neutral at best and appeared to be semi retired.

If we had had this commitment from the Board to the pres to the ad to the fball and bball coaches in 1995, we'd already be in a power conference. Brutally sad to contemplate.
