UT and SMU Conspire to Thwart TCU/Baylor

Ohio State is a very good team and probably deserves the 4th spot. But I think that there is little doubt that if UT had not gotten its way, and the Big 12 had a championship game, the winner between Baylor and TCU would have made the final 4.

And if there is any slight silver lining to our dismal season, IMO, it is that we contributed to the poor OOC SOS for both Baylor and the Frogs.

Yes, I am a petty, bitter person and sometimes take small comforts in the distress of my enemies.

Baylor and TCU probably would have been in the same division so they wouldn't have faced each other in a championship game. Also, don't you have to have 12 teams to have a championship game?

Yes, you have to have 12 teams but UT has steadfastly fought the championship game concept and having fewer than 12 teams is a very convenient scapegoat reason.

Yes, TCU and Baylor probably would have been in the same division, but it would have been more impressive if one of them could have snatched a 12th win over a good team from the north.

I think Texas fought the championship game because they figured their Red River Rivalry game with OU would decide the conference champ most years and didn't want a late season upset to keep the winner of that game out of the national championship hunt. When they went to a 4 team playoff with the P-5 conferences, you knew this wouldn't end well for at least one conference and it could have been 2 if Miss State had won the Egg Bowl convincingly

You are absolutely right. In their arrogance, the Horns still believe that in most years only OU stands between them and an undefeated season. Their OOC schedules are not that impressive actually.

They could also have gotten beaten by a team from the North in a championship game and been out as well. Bottom line is that OSU's win was so impressive that OSU would have in the CFB anyway.
