Chad Morris on NBC 5's Sunday night show

Postby PonyPride » Mon Dec 08, 2014 1:08 am

New SMU head coach Chad Morris just appeared with Newy Scruggs on NBC5's Sunday night show.

Here's a thumbnail sketch of what they discussed (paraphrased):

Newy Scruggs: "What do you tell recruits, what do you sell to recruits as to why they should come play for you at SMU"?
Chad Morris: "First of all, (at SMU) you live in one of the greatest sports cities in the country — you've got the Mavs, the Cowboys. You're in Highland Park, University Park, with some great eating establishments, etc."

Scruggs: "Do you have the offensive and defensive personnel to run (the systems you want to run)?"
Morris: "That's a great question, and we were talking about that today. Outside of about 10 minutes on video, I haven't watched (the Mustangs' 2014 season), and I don't know if I will. I want them all to have a clean slate. They have been through a traumatic season at 1-11, and the last thing they need is for someone to come in here and tell them, 'you had a bad year, it was an awful time' and talk negative about them. They need someone to come in and breathe life into them.

Scruggs: "(Thoughts on Baylor and TCU not getting invited to national playoff semifinals.)"
Morris: "The first thing is what a great season those guys have had. The other teams (that did make the playoff semifinals) … everyone could pitch their spiel. But it seems like playing in a conference championship game was what resonated out of what they said. I feel for those guys who poured in their effort, etc."
