How Many DT's do we have on the team?

The 2015 guy we just signed may need a year to put on weight. Minor, Saena, Riley Ayers and Nick reed? Is that it? Maybe Holloway?

Mason Gentry is now listed at 6'6" 292 on the roster. If that's accurate, he could definitely slide inside. I think McCleneghan could probably play some DT, too. Although at 260 he needs to add weight as well.

First step is the Strength and Conditioning program-that could solve a lot of problems. We're not building g for 2015-just wish we could find the right guys in the pipeline for 2016-2017. Its the biggest weakness of the recruiting class-need a break here

Thank you Stallion I am glad somebody on this board realize 2015 and 2016 will be building years. In 2016 we may win enough to qualify for a bowl if we can schedule a couple of lower level teams, if we can get some good defensive line help in 2016 recruiting class and they develop then 2018 should be a good year.

Every workout and every practice is important. Set the standard for excellence on and off the field and it will happen. Tell a player they aren't going to win now and they will live down to those expectations. That is a term the previous coach might have used to buy some time along with phrases like "we stole a win on the road". There is no dishonor in giving it your all and falling short in the victory column. Funny how lucky the hardest-working and most optimistic people are.

In the 4-3, you have one immobile guy in the middle as one tackle, around 300, and a second more mobile tackle to pair with him, who can be in that 280 range. Your DEs end up running 260, even 250 to provide mobility and strength.
Looking at our roster, we have a lot of players who may fit better as a 4-3 DE than the 3-4 DE they were playing - Wood, Nabusoshi, Pruitt, I think Seals puts on weight and runs there, Epley, Smith, Lawler. So I think we will see a lot better play out of the ends.
The 3 technique DT slot is where Minor, Gentry, McCleneghan, Biggins probably fit in. I think the 2 deep of Minor and Gentry is good enough to allow us to redshirt Biggins.
The big guy in the middle - that is Riley-Ayers, Hollie, Saenna, Reed. Nobody in the incoming class would be here. This is the weakest part of the team right now, and we won't really fix it by moving players around. Maybe Gentry is a fit here, but I hate to move a guy who could be a plus player at one position and average him out at another. I suspect that they will see what they have here and the OL in the Spring, and then if Hyder, Chamagua, Antunovic, or Myers aren't pushing for starting spots one of them moves into the mix. One thing to keep in mind is that at Lake Travis, Morris always had little short guys in this spot, so that 5'11 or 6'1 player that is a little plug up the middle might be a best fit.
