How many times can Craig James

make these statements and the media run with it?? I went to the DMN website to hopefully see a top story of Nic being named AAC POY, instead I see James quoted from a Washington radio interview, ex-SMU star Craig James on NFL support of gay marriage "So, that's satan working on us." We win our first conference title in 22 years and have the conference POY, but this is the big SMU story. Maybe he can do another national interview Sunday and overshadow our first tourney appearance in two decades. Good job, Craig.

He's a total idiot.
That said, going online for relevant news nowadays is sifting through the "hit bait" articles that get the crazies on the left and right all riled up.

It's click bait and it's getting ridiculous. The online journalists call themselves "just bloggers" so they don't have to follow any ethical codes.

That is pretty harsh. Harry made an honest mistake.

I hate to see the media quote athletes or entertainers regarding their politics unless they become authorities on the subject. I don't know what makes CJ an authority on Satan. Even when I agree with them I cringe when they open their mouths.

Yeah, and let's make sure Morris invites him into the program with open arms and gives him a jersey as well, as he proudly stands on the sidelines at home games.
Fanatics like him sure are entertaining though. Some big floppy shoes and a clown nose would be more appropriate.

once he runs for political office and injects himself into political discourse he is fair game

I don't understand why it is even news. A far religious-right politician believes gay marriage is unbiblical? SHOCKING! A very religious guy considers unbiblical stuff to be satan? SHOCKING!

I know that he is fair game but he isnt running for office right now and I don't know why anyone outside of the Focus on the Family people would care about his opinion on the topic. I guess he was appearing on one of their radio programs. Over the year I have seen way too many politicians/preachers, etc, tout the uninformed opinion of famous athletes in order to gain an audience. I don't like to see it.

Famous personalities/athletes/pols are frequently asked questions that are inflammatory, with the intent to do the very thing that print journalism did years ago. Where it is now "hits", it used to be papers/circulations sold, and advertisers notice such things. A friend in Florida politics once schooled me on this after I had been intentionally misquoted by an Orlando Sentinel reporter.."Newspapers are not out to tell the news..they are there to sell newspapers." I done growed up some that day.
Think of the (near) recent Duck Dynasty fuss regarding Phil Robertson's comments on homosex, in an interview with GQ magazine. He was specifically asked his personal views, and gave them. A&E got their panties in a wad when Robertson's views did not fit their corporate view of 'tolerance', and threatened to end the show. The short version is that two networks announced that they would take the hit show, with Robertson's opinions, in a flat minute. A&E quickly, uhh, reconsidered...especially when the bottom line was viewed.
You don't like a potential answer from one of those folks in culture's spotlight, don't ask. On the other hand, if your intent is to stir the stink in order to sell 'hits' or papers or advertising, this makes total sense. James was asked a question on a charged issue (to some), and he responded. The very fact this topic is on the board shows some degree of resonance.
Do you have to agree with him on this issue, or his view of the state of college football, or any other because he was and is a Mustang? Of course not. Heck, I'm not in total agreement with Mrs. peruna81 on many things, and will sleep soundly next to her tonight. She happens to be the best person I have ever met or known, bar none.
She is just wrong about Jamis Winston...

CJ is entitled to his opinion, and his religious views. Calling him an idiot or clown only underscores how far you have been led into political correctness. If you don't like his views, fine. Yet, remember the importance of free speech as a fundamental freedom in this country.
He has the courage to express his convictions.
Every individual has a constitutional right to enter into the relationship they choose. Having said this, my personal moral choices and opinions are far different.
When we confuse the public sphere with our personal choices, we lose sight of the distinguishing difference.
Forgive me for my two cents.

I'm not certain how subtle his arguments are, but I agree with Craig James. I find it very odd however that sports teams are commenting on the subject and that we are speaking about it here.

Free speech doesn't make his speech less idiotic.
