Attendance

I've had a good debate with friends about what our attendance will be like next season. Baylor doesn't count. Let's just jump to our first conference game. I think we will be 2-2 (wins over NT and JM) and people will see the the direction this program is heading. I'm going to be optimistic and predict 22,000 actual butts in seats for the ECU game. Am I being too much of a sunshiner?

Nope, it will be better - bank on it! All the June haters will be back in!

Yes you are. If there are 15K butts in seats, I would be amazed.
Everyone on this board knows what Morris and crew are doing, 99% of Dallas doesn't.

I think both sides have a good argument. It will be interesting how it plays out.

When's the last time we had 22K butts in seats for a football game that wasn't Tech/A&M/TCU/Baylor?

Agreed, but he's not Jesus. It will take more than improved recruiting and charisma to convince 22,000 Dallasites to come out and watch us play East Carolina and a nice Fall afternoon

It seems a lot of people think we will beat a North Texas team that absolutely smoked us last year. I'm not counting that one as a W yet.

Not too perfect because they will head to White Rock Lake instead! How about perfect college football weather?

How about, if we suck it will look like last year and if we are very good people will jump in the bandwagon? Jeez some people here act like SMU has the plague or something that will prevent people from watching some good football.

Speaking only for myself but I think the same mindset you're seeing from those predicting lower numbers for the fifth game next year: it's not negative on SMU, it's reality on the Dallas sports fan. 2-2 with wins over UNT and JMU, but losses and probably ugly losses to Big XII-IV+II teams, is not going to start any bandwagons. It will take a year or two of significantly upgraded results for the bandwagon to start.

If our alumni just leave the Boulevard and walk the steps into the stadium it won't be a problem. Plus, I know we are NOT the only people (PonyFans) talking about Coach Morris' tempo, too many people are asking me about him at work, church, and other places.
