I was there that night, and the first thing that popped into my mind after that last touchdown was whether we were required to attempt the PAT. After all, if UConn blocked the kick or picked up a fumble they could conceivably have returned it for 2 pts.

Teams are allowed to kick the PAT if they score a TD as time expires if they remain tied or behind. Didn UConn not have the privilige of making us attempt the PAT?

Nevertheless I'm glad it turned out the way it did. Mike Romo was one of my favorites and that team had some really tough kids on its roster.

Yes you are required to do the extra point if it could make a difference as witnessed by us having to do so against UAB on the last play TD in the Bennett era. All you have to do is take a knee.

Although for whatever reason I do not recall is doing so against UConn. May be a more recent rule.

Your memory is that same as mine. I also remember UConn complaining about the officiating but I dont think that the lack of a PAT attempt wasnt one of their points of disagreement.

At that point I think they were desperate to argue just about anything...

I like the camera angle at the very end of the game winning TD. A UCONN player falls to the ground in disgust in the endzone and is about two inches from being trampled to death by Peruna who starts his TD trot almost as soon as the official throws his arms up.

The difference in video quality between then and now is amazing.

Yes, that was their most specific complaint.

We bounced back after that Rice opener. One of my favorite times on the hilltop.

Was that Glieber or Bergfeld on the long TD catch?

Will someone please give more detail as to why Gregg resigned as coach after a couple seasons? Pony Excess doesn't touch on it in depth and Wikipedia just says he transitioned to Ad then left for the cfl.

By that point in the game, my BAC was not conducive to clear thoughts. Carrying a Big Gulp sized Rum/Coke into the stadium was probably a mistake.
