Kicked off the team for the always-vague "violation of team rules," the former Carter High School star would have been the Jayhawks' top returning rusher and receiver.

Hard to guess without knowing why he was kicked off, but ... any interest?

They're now down to 52 scholarship players (possibly 51)...

I seem to remember us recruiting him out of HS. I believe he took an official visit to SMU

Rivals does not show that we offered.
Old post from stallion

RB Corey Avery Dallas Carter who would easily be our best recruit was quoted a couple of weeks ago as interested in visiting SMU if he could fit a visit into his schedule. Sorry No Head Coach in the vicinity. Two of our better recruits Nate Gaines and Jordan Ingram slipping away? June Jones not around for in-home visit

Absolutely interested depending on the circumstances of his dismissal.

As their best returning player, you just have to know that it was something serious to get booted from KU.

The curse of Charlie Weis!!!!! Beaty should be able to make them respectable at some point, but wow the hole is deep.

.....and the genius is still getting paid by Kansas AND Notre Dame!

It still blows my mind that Kansas thought hiring Weis was a great idea.

Shouldn't be any interest unless the suspension from the team was not justified and possibly occurred just to free up a scholarship. No shortcuts to success.

Why would it surprise you? They fired the only good coach they had because he was mean to players.

I know I liked the Shawnbrey McNeal shortcut that June used to hide his garbage R&S offense.

If the circumstances surrounding Avery's dismissal warrant a second chance then I'm all for it. If you went to spring ball you'd know that what we really lack right now is an explosive element on offense. We have some guys coming in that we think can do it (Castille, Proche, Thomas) but Avery is a guy who has been productive at a major college program. We'd be foolish not to entertain the idea of bringing him in.
