We are watching the beginning of the Big 12,10, 8, 10, 12 implosion. But it actually started a couple of years ago.

This is old news, it's simply the details that are revealed.

Long story short:

When it was found out that UT was considering going to another conference every school in the Big XII immediately went to every other BCS conference and started begging for a place to stay.

True the details are old news, but UT and OU to a lesser degree drive the Big 12 train. That is meant as no disrespect to TCU, Baylor or the other big 12 schools. It is just the way it is

the simple truth is that Texas and OU will ultimately dictate the fate of the Big XII. If they do bolt to the PAC and take TTech and OSU with them, SMU & Houston just might get to rejoin Baylor & TCU in a conference of leftovers. It would be a shame for TCU & Baylor considering how competitive they have become, but you are right about the big schools controlling the privates' fates.

We will know how competitive TCU & Baylor have become when they replace Briles and Patterson. So much of success in college football comes down to coaching. TTU should be a cautionary tale for both of those schools. What has happened to Utah after Urban Meyer? Truly successful programs do well consistently across coaching eras. I ahve a strong feeling that if/when paterson and Briles leaves baylor and TCU will fall right back to being the punching bag of the big 12.

wouldn't hold your breath on either of them leaving. GP would have left by now if he was going to.

also - everyone assumes TT and OSU have to along if UT and OU go somewhere. That is just not the case in my view. Too many people have seen what can happen if you miss an opportunity, so they are not going to call the bluff of any conference, and PAC would be stupid to water down with 4 schools when only two are adding value. Both legislatures will rattle around and then do nothing.

You are dead on. TTU and OSU and the rest of the Big 12 are just a convenient place for UT and OU to park their programs until a better deal comes along or they have to jump out of necessity. The Big 12 has always been an illusory confederation of hangers on.

I wonder the same thing (in varying degrees) about Syracuse BB, K-St FB, Baylor BB, & Memphis FB, to name a few. Even Indiana BB post BKnight.

SMU has Dallas, commerce, prestige, money, affluence. Outside of our low alumni base, I'm convinced we are better than 3/4's of the existing P5 programs.

Absolutely, but there's no reason we can't sustain this post LB.

I'll say this, I like our chances post-LB more than Baylor's post-Drew.

Seems odd people say TCU and Baylor will go downhill after Patterson and Briles are gone but we will be fine after LB is gone. In all cases it just depends on how well one does in choosing the replacement.

They are probably biased for some reason. Can't imagine why though...
