the simple truth is that Texas and OU will ultimately dictate the fate of the Big XII. If they do bolt to the PAC and take TTech and OSU with them, SMU & Houston just might get to rejoin Baylor & TCU in a conference of leftovers. It would be a shame for TCU & Baylor considering how competitive they have become, but you are right about the big schools controlling the privates' fates.
We will know how competitive TCU & Baylor have become when they replace Briles and Patterson. So much of success in college football comes down to coaching. TTU should be a cautionary tale for both of those schools. What has happened to Utah after Urban Meyer? Truly successful programs do well consistently across coaching eras. I ahve a strong feeling that if/when paterson and Briles leaves baylor and TCU will fall right back to being the punching bag of the big 12.
I wonder the same thing (in varying degrees) about Syracuse BB, K-St FB, Baylor BB, & Memphis FB, to name a few. Even Indiana BB post BKnight.
SMU has Dallas, commerce, prestige, money, affluence. Outside of our low alumni base, I'm convinced we are better than 3/4's of the existing P5 programs.
