SMU Needs To Develop Dallas Hispanic Community

Postby smumustang1980 » Sat Aug 01, 2015 6:42 pm

There are likely a half million or more Hispanics in Dallas who have no college affiliation. We need to market the program to this market. We have relatively inexpensive family packages.

Need to develop better ties across the landscape of Dallas. Our reputation is not so good among many middle-class people of all races....

Good lord, don't say anything on this thread. Last time I suggested we market the soccer team to hispanics I was called racist.

1,081 enrollment per SMU website, how many on the Blvd or in the stadium? Not sure the average Cowboy fan is going to take interest in the Mustangs when our own students do not.

It is going to be hard work.

1) I don't remember meeting many Mexican-American students during my 4 years on campus and I am pretty sure that I was the only one in my freshman dorm.
2) In my family (3-4th generation in the U.S.) kids with good grades/scores go to UT, TAMU, or the Ivy League. SMU is a non-entity.

Who cares about enrollment. We are talking sports. Nobody is exploiting that market. A mexican dude living in west dallas has a much easier and cheaper time talking the family to smu soccer than going to pro soccer way up in Frisco. Insane that we do zero to sell tickets to them. It should be even easier than selling to middle class soccer families who may already have college allegiances.
