Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, Ricehttps://www.getmoresports.com/400k-gets-you-a-win/
The Baylor Bears will pay the Lamar Cardinals $400,000 to come to McLane Stadium, according to documents acquired through public record requests. Lamar is one of three out-of-conference opponents the Bears will play this season, with Rice and SMU being the other two opponents. Due to Baylor, Rice and SMU’s statuses as private educational institutions, their contracts for playing games this year are not subject to Texas public records laws and were unavailable for examination. Baylor AD Ian McCaw also said that he would like to see more games against Rice and SMU in the future as a Gang of Five opponent for Baylor, and that future home-and-homes against those two teams will likely happen again.
Re: Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, Ricein that case maybe Baylor fills in the 4th slot whenever it was we had an empty?
Re: Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, RiceI think it was 2020 we had an open slot.
So that would be TCU, Baylor, Texas State, North Texas, I believe, if Baylor got scheduled. Sounds good. ![]()
Re: Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, RiceFair enough. I'll go ahead and sign off on it. Next?
Re: Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, RiceGang of Five???

Re: Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, RiceI'm cool with Baylor on the schedule.
Re: Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, Rice
As long as it is a home/home series, I think SMU would look favorably on a deal. I doubt that we would be willing to schedule any "Payday" games against in state opponents. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, RiceNot sure what Ian means by a gang of five unless one of them is a random Texas Southland Conference Team (Lamar, SFA, SHSU, ACU, ICWU etc). There is pressure on BU to schedule one P5 team in their 3 OOC games a year. Going forward from 2020 BU will probably schedule one FCS game routinely from the Southland Conference, one P5 game, and one non-P5 game.
Re: Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, RiceG5 teams are those that are FBS but not in PAC 12 Big 10 Big 12 or ACC
Re: Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, RiceGang of 5 Texas teams? SMU, RICE, TEXAS ST., UTSA, UNT, maybe?
Re: Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, Rice
That's Group of 5, not Gang of 5. We're trying to figure out wtf gang of 5 means from the article. BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.
Re: Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, RiceGroup and gang have been used interchangeably
Re: Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, Rice
Well, at BU we know one of the 5 cannot be The University of Houston. Art Briles would never play one of the High Schools where he was a prior Head Coach and that has carried over to his current scheduling philosophy. IMO the five would be SMU, Rice, La Tech, UTSA and Tulsa. His long time Offensive Coordinator, Philip Montgomery, who was with him since Stephensville HS is now the HC at Tulsa. Then again Coach Montgomery may have the same feelings as Art Briles does when it comes to playing a school he has emotional attachments to. Baylor has both La Tech and UTSA scheduled for future 2 home and 1 away series. While La Tech and Tulsa are not Texas Schools they are certainly close enough. Which begs me to wonder, has any other High School other than Stephensville had three of their Former Coaches, either head or assistant, go on to coach Division I schools? (Chad Morris
Re: Baylor To Pay Lamar $400K; May Schedule SMU, RiceWhy don't they play NTSU?
