Team Speed

One thing Coach Morris seems to be recruiting well is speed and athleticism but especially speed. In fact, I believe the fastest 2 or 3 people on the team are true freshman. Right now as a whole the team is not very fast but recruiting will change that pretty soon imo.

Having a track team might help matters regarding team speed.

True that. That being said having signed 6 sub 4.5 guys in one class (2015) is tremendous accomplishment by this staff.

But wait...I was told by many here time and again that a track team would have no impact on our big programs and that football and basketball would derive no benefit from a men's track program. You mean the collection of genius assembled here on a daily basis could be wrong? [deleted]!

Seriously, anyone who doesn't understand that a men's track program would pay dividends is a moron.

Actually Coach Morris signed 7 guys with sub 4.5 speed because late signee Kevin Johnson clocked a 4.42 laser timed 40. Nice job.

If I remember correctly, that's pretty much all Gary Patterson recruited early on at TCU. He just wanted football players with speed and then he would find a position for them.

Fast players with talent can really help.

I think transfer David Johnson was a former track guy and I think has been clock at a sub 4.5 forty
(when healthy).

Teaching better body mechanics to kids that think the are already good or "good enough" is a beast. It takes weeks of full commitment to even slightly adjust a motion, and months to re-adapt their bodies to it. Find smart, already fast kids and teach them where to be and how to play. Much easier.

David Johnson won the national title in the 110 high hurdles in 2010.

And his time would rank him the #90 high school hurdler this year. Good but nothing amazing and far from a legitimate national champ.

Tcu and Baylor have real deal speed. I pray we can get 1 of those dudes someday again.
