Clear bag policy in Ford Stadium this season

Interesting tidbit in the Mustang Club email that went out yesterday:

"Additionally, SMU has instituted a clear bag policy at Ford Stadium. Permitted bags include those made of clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC which do not exceed 12 x 6 x 12 inches, one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (Ziploc or similar), and small clutch bags (approximately the size of a hand), with or without a handle or strap. Season ticket holders will receive two vinyl SMU bags (pictured below) with their tickets for gameday use. All bags except those approved under the clear bag policy are prohibited. All fans will also be subject to wanding prior to entering the stadium."Image

Same policy as AT&T Stadium.

Mandated by Risk Management and in line with industry trends.

c'mon, we are mostly SMU grads, give us the due respect in admitting this has nothing to do with "industry trends" and is 100% to receive a reduced insurance premium policy.

IMO it's very shortsighted in that the casual Dallas fan that we're so desperate to attract will not be aware of this policy, and will then be told to go back and put it in their car. they'll just go back to the boulevard. 2 fans lost b/c no guy is going to ditch his date/girlfriend/wife (or husband to be totally PC  )

We are coming for Baylor game with a 2 yr old. If u think my wife can fit everything she needs for our daughter in a 'clutch' or some ziplock, you have no idea.

This policy stinks.

I think it is a stupid rule but it does not say she (or anyone else) can only carry a ziploc or a clutch. It specifically says a clear bag up to 12 x 6 x 12 inches is allowed. If that is not large enough then you could carry a similar bag as well.

The NFL has had this rule in place since 2013

FWIW, University of Tennessee has a diaper bag exemption when accompanied by an infant

is there a Tampax exemption for girls on their period who don't want their date, or the other students around them on the BLVD and in the game to know she's under a red moon?

I agree. It is okay to keep the fan experience at a college football game, college-y. Why not re-entry? Why not easy entry policies? Why not signs, banners and flags...there are plenty of staff there to monitor and deal with one-off issues. Why not more student band time vs. AV System time? Keep us easy, accessible, affordable and a unique, college experience. Just play like pros.

This is an awful policy. This is a time when we need to be more inclusive and not give more people a reason not to come in off the blvd. What about when the casual Dallas fan doesn't know and get's turned away at the gate? Yeah, that'll make them want to come back... What about visiting fans? No one goes and reads these policies beforehand.

Very dumb idea. Is this some Highland Park yuppies rule or something? Still make me laugh thinking about that lady saying there would by gun and knife fights in Moody when we started selling beer,

Flags/banners? ask Ole Miss how that worked out for them. someone will get upset about everything.

That is what the big, clear bag is for. Remember, you get 1 big, clear bag per person. Having lived with the rules for 2 years at my NFL team's stadium, I would have no problem taking my 23 month old son to a game.

The rule started at Jets games after a Cowboys fan managed to Taser a Jets fan who was heckling him. (The Upper Deck at MetLife is full of drunkards BTW.)

I'm sure we have plenty of individuals work for SMU who are able to make good judgment calls and who can deal with indignant fans calmly and reasonably, or follow simple policy on how to. The more ownership of the stadium experience the fans feel, the better.

the people working the games are contracted through an independent security company. you're giving those individuals WAY too much credit. lowest common denominator.

If high school stadium staff can do it, I'm sure we could find a way.
