Interestingly, out of these teams, only TCU is a "pass first" offense. All of the others use more run plays. I hate the current trend towards "pass, pass, and pass some more". I don't care if it looks more exciting, it is not as effective.

Pretty interesting. Also consider that JJ used the big play stat a lot in determining how good the offense played. Should be fun to see a real 'run to set up the pass' look.

When faced with an effective running game, the defense must keep its safeties closer to the LOS. When that happens, it is easier to blow the top off the defense with play action/misdirection plays. Furthermore, it creates more room for WR's and TE's working the seams.

I don't know the date of the chart from which the percentages were taken, but sure hope it will be checked again when the returns are available for the 2015 season.

And I'm curious. Where was Clemson on the list? How did the total offenses and W - L records compare for the teams named.

Surprised Miami there, and not Baylor?

Where did you pull those stats from (thin air)? Link? I like a more balanced attack not just run, run, run.

I am sure if they made 10 yard pass plays big plays then the stats would be more even. Most spread team get their players out in space by short passes to try to gain 7 to 10 yards. Clemson may have shown up then.

That's why pass plays shorter than 20 yards aren't considered big plays. June explained it back when he let us have lunch with him.

I guess he used June's system in determining what a big play is then.
