Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go to wellHe was brought it to bring some toughness to that UH program. Some of the UH alums I know said that Levine was far too lenient and it probably was a big reason for their early season losses to Texas State at UTSA. UH under Herman will be built on toughness. Some won't like the public criticism but the ones that fight through it ought to be some tough SOB's.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go to wellWhenever he took over a new program, Urban Meyer terrorized the "old" players to see who would stick it out. It looks like Houston's coach is adopting the same strategy.
Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go to well
Yep. My old high school coach is now the head coach at a big time Dallas area program. He went down to UH in the spring to watch practice and said he had never seen anything like it. Dressing players down in front of the entire team, profanity on a quote "obscene" level, and more negative pressure put on kids than he'd ever seen. Said it was pretty intimidating stuff. Not sure I want to jump in a foxhole for a guy that calls me a blankity blankin' mother blanker. But hard to argue with the success that Meyer had at OSU. Herman is certainly adopting that style. Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go to well
If you win, that style can be very effective - Meyer and Saban. If you lose, it can get ugly fast. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go too wellI'm glad we have CM instead of him.
Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go too wellEffective or not, that kind of "motivation" is not my cup of tea. Not a big fan. I hope they suck [deleted] and we kick it! Consistently!
Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go too wellThe yang to Morris' yin.
Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go too well
Completely agree. So glad we have CM. ![]()
Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go too wellTo win, a coach has to have the players. If he and his staff are degrading to their players, word gets out and recruiting becomes a bit harder.
Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go too welleveryone has their own style. if you read any business news you've surely seen what it's like at AMZN. brutal. but a lot of people who have left have said that it really jumpstarted their careers b/c it gave them mental fortitude when they moved on.
everyone has their own style. i'm sure it was an eye opener to the kids in our program when Morris got here and turned the intensity dial from 0 up to 11. to each their own. as said above, when you're winning, stuff like that can slide (Meyer & Saban) but when you lose, you lose those guys, you lose the fans, etc. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go too well
lets hope that happens. right now they are our main competition in terms of who we need to out-recruit. Ok this is getting ridiculous...I agree with Dutch on THIS ONE POST by him totally
Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go too well
Not an issue if 1s are good and stay healthy. Already recruiting some great receivers to alleviate the problem quickly, much like Morris already has here. That offense is going to be much more about the O-Line and run game. Similar to Ohio State, and here with Morris, it's a run first offense and it doesn't really work without that as the primary initial threat. Hammer the run until 8 in the box, then throw over the top vs. 1 on 1 coverage on outside. Baylor and Ohio State make it look easy most of the time.
Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go too well
It is my understanding that Meyer becomes "less insane" once he identifies the players who will never quit on him. If Herman can copy Meyer's formula for running a program, he has a chance to be very successful. If he is just an A-hole with a coach's whistle, players will eventually turn on him like the the players at Kansas did on the their coach. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Looks like Houston's scrimmage did not go too wellgreat way to get kids to open up space to leave the program...similar to Ron Meyer
