I know this is a super weird question but can anyone tell me if Ramon flanigan started the opening game of the 1992, 93, 94, 96, & 97 seasons?

I believe he started every game in the 90's and early 2000's, as he garnered 13 years of eligibility.

Interesting question. He was on the roster 1992-1997. He suffered two season ending injuries, one in 92 and I can't remember which year the other was but it was the first game against Arkansas where he hurt his hip.

Almost positive it was 1995... pretty sure he broke his collarbone. Was the first game of my freshman year and it was an absolutely horrible tease - beat Arkansas and then proceed to lose the next 10 games.

That sounds right. I was a student and at that game as well. There's no doubt it's a different season if he doesn't get injured. As for the original question, I believe he started the opener in 93, 94, 96 & 97 but I'm not sure if he started the opener his true freshman year, 92?

I remembered watching him play against Tulane in his freshman year when I was in middle school. I remembered watching him play his final game when I was a freshman at SMU.

Wasn't it the first offensive play of that game, or at least on the first possession? Cotton Bowl was silent when he got hurt.

I remember it being the first play of our first possession of our first game of the season.It was 1995 I believe. You are correct about the silence in the stadium. SMU fans were feeling optimistic for the season and excited to see what Ramon and team could accomplish....was quite the bummer to see him carted of the field.

I am friends on Facebook with Ramon and I forwarded him the question. Here is his answer:

"Started opening game of 94, 95 (injured on first play) 96 and 97...92 -played in opener vs Tulane (didn't start) 93-didnt play at all (mono)"
