Scripted Possessions

I'm assuming the first and possibly second possessions will be scripted.

I'm no "great football mind", but here's what I would do:

First possession . . .

First Play: run RIGHT at Oakman. I know this sounds stupid, but I'm a fan of running right at their best players and try to wear them out and then redirect and keep him guessing and off balance. I would NOT run at Billings. :-) Eff Oakman and the whackoffs.

Second play: very very fast hike and throw the deep ball/max protection (maybe running at Oakman on the first play could slightly slow down his pass rush on the second play) to Sutton.

Third play: play action to Gaines, TD. Crowd goes wild, gives SMU hope.

Second possession . . .

2 misdirection/off tackle runs, then one of those sweeps to Castille. If first down, play action to Thomas deep.

What would your first 2 scripted possessions look like? (and, yes, I'm ready for plenty of smart [deleted] comments).

(just something fun to do and pass time while waiting very impatiently until Friday).

Freak them out by punting on first down

Set up that first play by doing a Tanya Harding on Oakman during pregame.

We owe them a fake punt.

Wait until they see the "swinging gate"

I'd really like us to use some of our newly recruited speed to try a jet sweep and test whether Baylor is ready to play on the edge. Double points if it incorporates the H-back blocking out front for the sweeper.

I'd also like to see us try to take a shot to Courtland Sutton to see if he can use his size to jump over the DBs. With the backup option of the wheel route if Sutton isn't open. I thought the wheel route throw and catch was one of our more successful plays during the scrimmage.

Other than that, I want to see what West and Jones can do in between or just outside the tackles. Not going to be easy, but really would like to see how the running game has developed.

Just load up and blast it at Oakman. An OL, Gaines, and then Line running right at him behind both. I'm serious. His strength is his speed off the edge. The worst thing to do is throw it predictably every down and let Matt Davis have to sit back and make reads. He has 2, MAYBE 3, seconds to get rid of the ball. RUN it, then take your shots off real fast snaps off off tackle plays. Slow down the pass rush.

Ojai, I like your style. Do it. Yours too Pony32. Make them earn it. Ain't gonna be no sitting ducks on the pond or in the pocket.

Run on first down right at Oakman. Second down run right at Oakman. Third down run right at Oakman. First down, SMU. First down. Run right at Oakman. Second down, run right at Oakman. At that point Phil Bennett figures us out and gives Oakman help. Play action toward Oakman and bomb, TD. SMU. Oakman is gassed after one series. Second series, let Oakman come through the line and Mean Machine him. 15 yards, so what. Second play, run at Billings. Third play run at Billings. Then punt.

What if we lined up our defense against their defense? That would freak them out totally.

I like it! :-)

I want us to score our only few points early. After the third possession it will come back to reality.

I bet they didn't practice against that at all.

Last year, it would have been a more effective strategy than the one June employed.
