No, their new AD Patterson is a [deleted]. He's managed to [deleted] everyone at the school off - EVERYONE. The major boosters, the yearly boosters, the band, the academics, multiple coaches including football, women's sports, everybody. Not a UT fan but if this is the future of AD's everybody's in trouble.

And by no, you mean yes. The Big 12 is apparently requiring every team to charge visiting bands for tickets. From reading the SMU Rivals, it sounds like Baylor charged us last year. The issue isn't that they are charging the band, it is how much they are charging. Other schools are typically $50/ticket, whereas Texas is charging $100 which is excessive.

It may be a Big 12 thing. But, Patterson is running UT into the ground. Boosters are wanting to assassinate him.

Why do I naturally assume we did not charge Baylor's band if they charged us last season?

I hope I am wrong.

This article explains it better. Basically, all the former SWC schools had a "gentleman's agreement" to not charge each other for the band's seats, but now they've decided to do away with that and start charging "for accounting purposes."

The issue here is that Texas is charging $100 a seat for the band. If it's only for accounting purposes, then make them $1 a piece. It's a ridiculous way to try and get an extra $35,000-40,000 out of Tech and any other school, and it discourages schools from bringing their full or partial bands. I hope UT (and UT only) gets charged at least $100 a seat for their band everywhere they go. And an extra $10,000 for the space required to handle any bass drum larger than 4 feet in diameter.

An additional potential revenue source is to begin to charge for newborns under 2. Pay Up you slobbering, crying litt' babies! Daddy needs to buy 10 more uniform combinations :P

I really can't believe that this is a new thing in the Big XII. I'm pretty sure that the SEC schools have been charging face value for visiting bands for years. SEC schools usually allocate around 5,000 tickets to visiting teams and it's up to the visiting school to decide whether any of those tickets would go to the band (they all have to be paid for or returned to the home school).

Personally, I wouldn't ever let the visiting team's band get in for free... If I have to give up seats that I could sell to my fans, I'm sure as hell not going to give them to the opponent for free... especially when I know that visiting bands have a tendency to just play any time there's a break, regardless of whether the home school is trying to honor an alumnus, make announcements, or (as is the case sometimes with Auburn's band) your band is trying to perform their pregame show.

Next time the low life band from Wacoland shows up, charge them $1,000 a seat. Maybe they will stop playing over our Alma Mater and when our O is on the field.

At some places that isn't hyperbole.

UT forgot somewhere along the line what intercollegiate athletics is about. Student athletes competing. Then they got into the money angle and it is downhill since. The Longhorn Network has been a disaster for recruiting and for the players and coaches. Constant scrutiny wears on anyone and when a loss occurs it is even worse. They can't focus on the games and the LHN shows an inside look which is not very flattering.

Would be funny if a school sent one band member with a bass drum and kazoo. Half time show would be a viral moment for sure.
