Chad Morris Scoring

I will not assume a win much less a big win this year given last season. BUT, if we were so fortunate, does CM have a history of running up the score or does he back off?

It definitely looks like he backed off in the 2nd halves of his biggest blowouts at Clemson. Of course there's only so much you can tell from box scores. We need some perspective from Clemson fans.

Wouldn't that essentially be the Head Coach's call?

this offense relies heavily on the running game; not really designed for running up scores. Tempo more significant than run vs pass plays. Morris usually slowed the tempo in 4th quarter of blowout games at Clemson with backups taking most snaps. I sure hope we get to see that at some point this season, but I'm not expecting this team to blow anyone out

We would usually put our 2nd and 3rd team in once the game was in hand, but would still run at our regular tempo. Generally focus on sustaining drives and not taking as many shots downfield. As mentioned above it's ultimately up to the HC, but I would expect Chad would follow suit with what he was accustomed to at Clemson because even though those reps for the 2nd and 3rd teamers may be in "garbage" time they're still in game reps and pay huge dividends when injuries happen and starters graduate.

I want a coach with a killer instinct. unt would do the same to us so if we are in that position I would hope he doesn't put the backups in too early because honestly our starters need as much experience and reps as they can get.

You mean...how they were a year ago?

I was there-SMU laid over-they didn't run the score up. Perhaps the worst case of an SMU team quitting I've ever seen

Exactly. They were in the position to score a ton more if they really wanted to, but didn't.

that game at UNT last year was the most pathetic (lack of) effort I've seen in all the years I've watched SMU football. I remember coming out of that one thinking "June must go...immediately!". Just glad that happened and I sure hope our guys are excited about an opportunity to redeem themselves

I thought I read a quote from HCCM (while at Clemson) about emptying his bench when the game is in hand. He called it the 2nd & 3rd string guys reward for their sweat equity. They put in a ton of hard work and playing them when the opportunity presents itself is his way to say thank you.

Same. I have seen some absolutely atrocious SMU football over the past 15 years but that was the worst performance I've ever seen. Looking at the sideline you could see no one really wanted to be there. That is the only day I've ever been ashamed to be an SMU fan.

it certainly appeared our guys knew their coach had quit on them and they were just following his example

No question.

Or looking to hasten his departure
