expected to be fired today according the ticket. He didn't last long.

They should go after TCU's AD...getting froggy in big 12 is a big resume booster...and Deloss likes him.

TU is a complete mess. They were fortunate to beat Rice. Cal will roll them and so will the rest of the Big 12 foes. Strong will most likely be next. Their fans are farther away from reality than Cowboys fans with realistic expectations.

The face of a college athletic program is the football coach and sometimes the basketball boach. Patterson hired a black football coach and a black basketball coach. That in and of itself probably made a lot of booster mad enough to fire him at a school like UT in the south. The new AD will probably fire both coaches at some point. Maybe Smart will get one year before they fire him but not much more.

Smart may get a longer tenure. Southern schools are usually a bit more tolerant when it comes to the hoops coach. But not both at least not both at he same time.

ehh..I think it has to do with a lot more than that. Patterson is obsessed with money.

Patterson has tried to keep the LHN $15M+ in the athletic dept and not spread it around to the University, despite agreeing to do so with the President...thus pi$$ing off the university

Raised ticket prices over 21% at football games with a losing team thus pi$$ing off the fans. That in itself is incredibly stupid.

Cut charter flights for several sports (including the basketball team) to closer schools like tech, ou, osu, etc thus pi$$ing off the athletes & coaches

Denied a request by Strong to raise salaries of a few quality control assistants who are making $24k/yr. The lowest in the Big 12.

Charged former football players from the 1964 team $25 each to stand on the field during their OWN 50th REUNION celebration.

So I think it's quite a bit more than racism...he has royally pi$$ed off the school, boosters, and the fans. The guy is a complete idiot.

Bottom line is you can fire anybody for similar reasons. I called it when he hired Smart that he would be fired and at least one or both coaches being replaced pretty quickly with coaches that UT boosters can relate to. He should have known better when that firestorm hit when he hire Strong and then he follows it up by hiring another black coach Smart. He should have known better. He has only himself to blame.

With all the well documented problems and bad press from that AD and you think that is the explanation? In Austin? Charlie Strong could come out with a giant beard and face Mecca for prayer on the 50 yard line at half time and be just fine if he was winning

UT will get another coach and give him as much time as he needs to turn the program around. And he will not make the same mistake Patterson made regarding who he hires as head football coach. My guess is that Red McCombs will have a major hand in picking the next football coach. He said that he could have gotten Jon Gruden and now he will have the chance.

Sorry, but that's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read on PFs. Austin is definitely not a southern city. Patterson was fired because the guy cannot get along with anyone. He burned bridges weekly in Austin and it finally caught up with him. My guess is his firing had nothing to do with his hirings, or the race of the people he hired.
