Nichols: Just two games into Chad Morris era, SMU looks like brand new team

UNIVERSITY PARK -- There was much celebrating in the locker room after SMU's victory over North Texas on Saturday night. Coach Chad Morris made sure of that.

The former Clemson offensive coordinator has preached to players the importance of establishing a winning attitude. But that message can be a tough sell to a team that finished 1-11 last year.

"We wanted our guys to understand that winning at any level is tough and we're going to celebrate winning," Morris said. "To see that locker room after the game and watch these guys celebrate was really special."

Couple of stand out comments:

The Mustangs have already scored more points (52) than they did in the first seven games last season (49). And they are doing it with an infusion of new faces.

SMU ranks third nationally in time of possession behind North Carolina and Rice, and is 14th in third-down conversions at 53.3 percent.

I get it is two games in, but it is nice to be a little higher than 128th.

I'm glad we aren't leading in 3 and outs and I'm sure the defense is as well.
