Positives from last night

We are all aware of the negatives from last night's game so out of respect of the fact that this is indeed a lengthy rebuilding process, let's look at some good take aways from the game.

1.these freshmen backs are going to be REALLY good.
2.receivers are often drawing PI in order to save the big play.
3.Castille is getting more involved in the offense
4.Kevin Thomas had a huge catch!
5.pass pro actually held up; many of the sacks were coverage sacks
6.Courtland Sutton continues to be a beast...but sometimes you just gotta feed your beast and not worry about being balanced. If it's working, go for it. It's like throwing it up to dez in the endzone..trust that he's a better athlete and let him go make a play! If tcu can't cover him, jmu can't either. Put the ball on the right spot and pi is more likely than a pick.

7. We only have to watch our defense eight more times this season.
8. Chad Hedlund continues to impress (52 yard FG, multiple touchbacks, successful onside kick).

What kind of range does he have. Wondering where we needed to get to have a shot at a FG at the end. Considering his Kickoffs I think I would have put him out there for a 57 yarder or so

Thought it might be worth it to give him a shot at the end rather than the hail Mary... Would have been about 65 yards.

Doubtful we make it but probably no less likely than a successful HM.

Hedlund has been very good this season. I have full confidence in him as a kicker...punting game needs to get much better now though.

Net Punting 37.6

I don't lose a lot of sleep when a punter doesn't kick a pretty ball. I lose sleep when a punter allows the opponent to run a kick back for 6

His average last night was boosted by a 62 yard punt that was so bad it could not be caught and luckily it rolled 30 yards. He line drives short kicks. You will see big returns often if he does not find some hang time.

Agreed. I'm in the camp of wanting to switch punters. I'm sure the current punter is a good kid who will do very well at his calling in life, but it doesn't seem that his calling is punting.

Last year our opponents averaged 9 yards per punt return 33-297

This year they are averaging about 2.8 per return

net punting is up too

Hang time is everything on punting and we have none. Time to give the other guy a chance before it cost us a game.

When our defence can't preserve a four-point lead with less than two minutes left in the game, I find it really difficult to lay any blame at the feet of our punter.

Hedlund is a stud. That long FG in the first half had room to spare.
Did anyone notice if he was kicking with the wind or against it? Or was there any wind at all?
I didn't.

Wind felt slightly in my face from north end zone but the flags indicated a very minor northwest wind (at his back).
