Ouch, that's ugly. Hate to say it but we have on D some folks that do not want to hit or get in on the play.

First TD - our DE goes inside, gives up contain, easy score.
:57 watch Rhone on the play. Slides to his right to shadow the RB, and then explodes forward, going on the left side of the blockers and leaves a huge gap for the RB to run through.
1:37 is an excellent display of what their d-line did. Lots of stunts to confuse our blockers. It also confused Davis with identifying running holes. Their left tackle stunts around our center to the opposite hole. Instead of switching off, our left guard stays on his man, Lasecki gets picked, and Brown tries to follow his guy all the way around the line. Complete lack of communication/organization. Fundamentally not good.
1:53 McCleneghan does speed rush to the outside. Yenga, instead of rushing through the free gap circles inside and gets trapped up the middle, leaving a monster lane for the QB to scramble through.
2:10 They do a nice job sealing the hole at the LG. Free blocker knocks Yenga out. Someone on our team goes flying in (guessing Randolph), but takes a bad angle and misses, leaving a huge gain. Bad discipline, you have to take the angle behind Yenga on that play.
2:46 zone read. 1 and 11 both decide to take the RB and run right by the QB who takes it to the house.
3:37 32 and 5 both sit short and let the guy go straight by them.
3:43 Minor gets pancaked because he loses balance. 95 doesn't keep contain on the outside, takes the same place Rhone was taking. Another linebacker from the outside took an awful angle at the beginning and missed.
Lots of "learning opportunities" for Sunday film session. The discipline issues need to be fixed now, because the running QB of ECU and Navy are going to destroy us if we don't.
To me, a lot of what I see on that film are players who are underestimating how skilled JMU is, and are just trying to win individual battles and get away with what they think is better athleticism instead of play their position. Either they completely underestimated JMU OR our scout team is so easy to practice against they are developing a lot of bad habits. Probably a bit of both.

Had nothing to do with them not wanting to hit. They just could not catch them or was being blocked. Mostly the defense just could not catch them. They had more speed. You can't hit what you can't catch.

dude, u need to relax with the JMU players are infinitely more talented than the SMU players talk. It's JMU, an F C S school.. not TCU or Alabama, hell, not even a Houston or Memphis. Sure our talent on defense sucks, but its on par with JMU's talent.. and even if our players are inferior, it'd be by a marginal amount. You can't completely expunge the coaches from blame for our meltdown on defense. Van Malone is on the hot seat.

Dude, you need to relax. I was talking about the want to not the coaches. You must not have seen the video or was looking at snapshots on an overhead projector because they were faster.

Exactly! What happened to all that hitting in spring ball that was supposed to toughen em' up and make them better tacklers? Guess you can't keep using the June excuse for that one either.

Stallion posted a link somewhere that had all the big plays. Might have just been the scoring plays but it had several. If I see it again I will point you to it.

Watching these highlights makes me sick again, I don't believe we were out athleted on defense. Vad is a great runner and they had good overall team speed, but our guys took so many bad angles, were out of position, filled wrong holes its not even funny. We have to get this corrected before ECU.
