I guess that's just what I saw on TV. That's so scary. I've been considering carrying while out running. There are some scary people out there. I'm not in Dallas btw. Just in the last few weeks I've had to call a few times on pit bulls acting aggressively.

Sad story indeed. The WRT can be pretty scary in some spots between Forest and NW Hwy. It is desolate and has some blind corners. I would only cycle the trail and always upped my cadence when approaching certain spots. There is no shortage of psychos in this crazy world we live in.

Never go alone...just common sense. And it's not just WRT I'm talking about.

Sounds like he had a mental illness that was not properly dealt with.

Because it is "cruel" to lock up mentally ill people in mental hospitals, we release them on society where they often harm others or themselves. Nobody wins and everyone loses.

I believe if a mentally ill person is unstable you can have them committed to an institution that keeps those kind of patients at their facility.

I guess Obama will lecture us on the need for stricter machete control laws now

You can but the bar is pretty high and it's tough to keep them. I would be curious to see what laws have changed since the days of the asylums.

There is a park in Shanghai that is the equivalent of Central Park in NYC. I've jogged there over a 100 times.

New York City, 10M people and the financial center to the U.S. & the Western world. Shanghai, 30M people, the financial center of China and eventually the Eastern World.

Both parks are located about 5 miles from each city's 'Wall St'.

I normally jog between the hours of 7pm-10pm. I feel as safe there as anyplace I've been. You see hot girls in their 20's running by themselves, elderly people, teenage girls, parents with their children and NONE of them have a care in the world when it comes to safety, because they know they are safe. When could one make a similar statement about Central Park, or for that matter, any Top 20 U.S. city in terms of population?

No rapes, robberies, murders (oh I'm sure they happen, but very rare, I've never heard of any).

You'd be a knucklehead to allow your teenage daughter to walk the streets of America alone at night. In Shanghai were I lived, it's commonplace and quite refreshing.

It is pretty much a Catch & Release system until they commit a serious crime.

Mentally ill can only be committed while they pose a danger to themselves or others. Thing is that once many are treated with medication in a very short period they may no longer pose such a threat--but many don't like taking their medication and their condition can spiral out of control quickly if they don't

Given the Dallas DA's recent mental health issues, it will be interesting to see how she reacts to the situation.
