SMU Football does not have a bright futureModerators: PonyPride, SmooPower SMU Football does not have a bright futureI hate to state the obvious but how is SMU supposed to build winning seasons when our AD continues to schedule multiple Power 5 teams for non-conference games each year. The AD should create a schedule to realistically allow the coaches to get to 3-1 or 4-0 so the team does not have to go nearly undeafeated in conference play to make a bowl game. Why schedule Baylor, Texas Tech, etc. when they do not want us in their conference? Why do them any favors and be their whipping boys? Why are we playing Michigan? Money? We don't recruit in Michigan so the game is nothing more than an easy victory for them. I don't see much success going forward until the AD puts a non-conference schedule together to get the team to 3-1 or 4-0 going into conference play. Tired of the same old losing seasons with no hope for success. I am not the only one because the alumni, students, and the local community are not supporting the team with a losing record.
Re: SMU Football does not have a bright futuresolid first post. Any thoughts on uniforms, attendance, or the band?
Re: SMU Football does not have a bright futureCue blackoutpony saying this guy is feel the horsepower... lol
Re: SMU Football does not have a bright futureYes, I would guess that Michigan is about money and TV. We don't recruit Michigan, but the kids we do recruit in Texas will be impressed if they see us giving Michigan a real game on national TV. And we'll get paid. Works for me.
Your comments are premised on the assumption that we will never have the talent to compete with these teams. If that assumption is correct, then your point is valid. But if we can actually recruit enough players to make these games competitive, then your point falls apart. Personally (for the first time in 20 years) I do think we have the potential to recruit enough players to make these games interesting.
Re: SMU Football does not have a bright futureUCF is getting $1,800,000 from Michigan so hopefully we are too
Re: SMU Football does not have a bright future
Johnny, Johnny, Johnny? Scheduling, recruiting, DCoordinator, and attendance criticism off limits on this board. Get with the program man.
Re: SMU Football does not have a bright futureWell, we've scheduled multiple 1-AA schools over the past few years, and managed to lose to one this year. North Texas is both local and a winnable game, and managed to lose that one last year. I mean, you have to actually play someone and every time you suit up you stand the risk of losing. Besides, Baylor very possibly lost out on a shot at the National Playoff last year because of their weak schedule, and that thing was probably scheduled back when they were going 3-8 every year and people wanted an easier non-con scheduled.
As far as having a bright future, well, we've been dealing with that for 30 years now, so with all due respect, thanks for telling us what we already know.
Re: SMU Football does not have a bright future
Why did your son choose SMU?
Re: SMU Football does not have a bright future
Is that true? $1.8 million? Wow that's a lot of coin...
Re: SMU Football does not have a bright future
Lol no, you're the eternal crazy optimist who thinks we should beat all those teams coming off a 1-11 season. You also at least know that those games were all put in place back was Bennett was our coach. I think this is probably that HireSabin guy, who may very well be Eric Dickerson ![]() BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.
Re: SMU Football does not have a bright futureWhen the schedule was made June was supposed to have us competitive with the teams we scheduled.
All those who believe in psycho kinesis, raise my hand
Re: SMU Football does not have a bright futureOne can never gauge the progress of the program until one schedules, plays and beats better talent.
Re: SMU Football does not have a bright futureI am a big proponent of scheduling down and always have been. However, I would never title a thread "SMU Football does not have a bright future " because of it.
Re: SMU Football does not have a bright future
Michigan's gate is over $5 mil per game, but that does seem generous...or very good negotiating by O'Leary or whoever made that deal.
