Re: tiki Players with P5 OffersSo bottom line, even within this short list, several are no longer on roster, and the other contributors have shown flashes and would be considered "the best" on the team: wood, Davis, Gaines. Minor and Gaines are the biggest head scratchers for me in terms of lack of productivity on the field. Gaines of course has shown some flashes and has blocked well off and on but expected more. Of course if we had a roster full of P5 offers with the best starting, we'd probably see more out of these guys.
Thanks for posting.
Re: tiki Players with P5 OffersGresham (from FW All Saints) committed to Texas and then Louisville while still in high school. He ended up at SMU after Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino pulled away a scholarship offer in the Class of 2014. The timing of the scholarship news left Gresham with little time to evaluate more options as recruiting classes were filling up.
How many offers did Matt Davis have coming out of Tyler JC in 2013 after a redshirt year at A&M and one year at Tyler? Tiki could sell him on replacing Gilbert? Jeremiah Gaines from Red Oak picked SMU for its academics, especially the divinity school. Committed in July before senior season. Also had offers from Wazzu and Wake.
Re: tiki Players with P5 OffersSorry, Blackoutpony, you deserve the accolades for posting, Great Job.
Funny but when you look at the players CM inherited with more than four P5 offers, each had a unique story. Matt Davis came via the JC route, so tiki didn't win this recruiting battle. Daniel Gresham at the end was deciding between SMU and UTSA, the other offers had dried up. Jeremiah Gaines selected us not based on any recruiting efforts by tiki, quite the opposite, Gaines recruited us. So in conclusion, off of a roster of some 90 players, besides the exceptions above, tiki recruited only 2 players that had more than 2 P5 offers, Seaver Myers and Zelt Minor. What a piece of work this man was.
Re: tiki Players with P5 Offers
I had no idea how bad it was until I put together that list. I was shocked. Also, to be fair, Cam Smith had 3 P5 offers BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.

Yeah, Something with the vertebrae in his neck. Very sad. BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.
Re: tiki Players with P5 OffersWe get it. You don't like JJ. But this post is dumb. Usually if a player gets a P5 offer he's going to the P5 school about 99% of the time. If he doesn't it's because they either rescinded that offer or he never got one at all.
I agree that JJ didn't seem engaged in the recruiting process but I don't recall him having the worst recruiting classes in the conference. If you want to compare his classes to Baylor, TCU, and Tech, then yes it sucked big-time. But those are schools that are in better conferences and way more engaged to having big-time athletic programs. I believe our complaint was more he didn't recruit Texas well and had too many out of state players. Whatever it was, he's gone. We won and got a guy who will recruit Texas. That being said, I don't like using the Obama excuse of "we suck because of what the last guy did." There are really positive things that has happened this year but there are a lot of dissapointing things as well. We have gotten worse as the season has progressed and that is very dissapointing. But the season isn't over and there's still a lot of games to improve. No one thought we'd be playing in a bowl game this year but it is reasonable to expect an improvement in play from game to game.
Re: tiki Players with P5 Offers
That is not true and your post is really dumb. TCU majored in beating out BCS bottom feeders and did well in a non BCS conference. This is more JJ suck up propaganda. You don't have anything to back what you say up and are just throwing it up against the wall hoping it sticks. And in the first year of a new coach that took over a team where over half the players did not even have an FBS offer let alone a P5 offer, so yes, it is a valid reason. SoCal_Pony made a very good post. #HammerDown
Re: tiki Players with P5 Offers
Very reasonable expectation. This team is getting worse, against easier competition, that is on the coaches. You can see the inexperience and desperation with Deion at corner and Bozidar at DT.
Re: tiki Players with P5 OffersSmurfs at CB... an SMU tradition.
Re: tiki Players with P5 Offers
You seem to think just because someone disagrees with your post it's JJ propaganda. I never sided with JJ. I just pointed out that I don't remember any of his classes being last in the conference. You seem to go out of your way to include JJ in all of your post so you're the only one who's focused on him. I'm focused on the now and we are not getting better. You repeat yourself enough, We all know you think our talent sucks and blame JJ. It doesn't mean it's right or wrong. Your opinion. Mine is different.
Re: tiki Players with P5 OffersNo, you made a statement without any facts to back it up.
