UNC has spent $10 mill on scandal

Postby Treadway21 » Tue Oct 27, 2015 4:59 pm

So far...

This probably could of gone in the Basketball section, but since it was a university wide scandal, I thought I would post here:

Michael McCann ‏@McCannSportsLaw - 2 hours ago

UNC, facing NCAA violations, has paid over $10 million on lawyers and consultants to address "fake classes" scandal: http://www.newsobserver.com/news/local/education/unc-scandal/article41475339.html …

I'd argue they have to.

NC is looking at a scandal that could cost them a decades worth of games, destroy their credibility, and easily cost them ten times what they've spent.

SMU found a case where two employees acted independently of the school and when the school found out they immediately suspended and then fired the employee and then went running to the NCAA about their findings, hoping and believing that they would recieve a lesser penalty. When the NCAA pulled what they pulled SMU had to believe that they had already shown their hand and fighting them wouldn't be that successfull.

NC has their backs against the wall. If the NCAA has ANY sense of fairness (and I'm not saying that they do) then the Tarheels are in trouble and that money is to avoid a potential death-penalty type situation.

Well we did not roll over for the level 1 violation that the golf team committed. Anyway, I guess we just want to look good to the Knight Commission on the revenue sport.

Ulric was not suspended until this past January. He was not immediately suspended.

[deleted] away money on nothing? We have the #5 golf recruit recommitting to SMU not to mention Tom Wilson who would have never signed with a post season ban over his head. It sucks but we pulled the band aid off all at once. The NCAA used us as a precedent for what they will deliver to UNC.

#5 golf recruit committing coming to SMU, but but I thought that filing an appeal for the post season ban like the SMU golf team did would hurt recruiting.

Our current coach is great, the former coach got a 5 year show cause.

Reading the Notice of Allegations, the women's basketball program is the only program specifically mentioned in the 5 charges. So now we know the NCAA's plan. They are going to sacrifice the Women's BB team and preserve their cash cow men's team and football. NCAA looks tough and keeps the cash rolling in for UNC and themselves.

And our current basketball coach is great. Wilson would have come here anyway just like the golf recruit.

I have enjoyed your banter over the years but you are a moron to think he would come here with a post season ban next year. He had UCONN, CAL, Gonzaga offers.

I am sure the #5 golf recruit in country had major offers as well. You sound like a recovering alcoholic with that crap. Fine you support Turner's decision and I don't. A moron takes the company line blindly which I don't.
