UNIVERSITY PARK -- SMU's Matt Davis discovered how fleeting job security can be for quarterbacks.
Davis led the team in rushing and passing over the first six games. He limited mistakes with wise decisions, throwing a school-record 171 passes without an interception. His play evoked the praise of coach Chad Morris, who called Davis "one of the most competitive players I've ever been around."
But Davis' streak ended in last Saturday's loss to South Florida. And Davis found himself on the sideline in the fourth quarter, standing beside Morris as redshirt freshman Darrel Colbert took over.
