Is he trying to prove to the players that he believes in them or something?

Doesn't that backfire pretty bad when the players see for themselves that they can't do it?

I would have kicked it, but had no issues with it because I saw no reasonable chance of winning.

That isn't a no brainier to kick the FG there

Once we got into the red zone, I did not have any problem with electing to take a shot for the TD. Still would have had time to recover a kick and take a play or two to get into FG position (without the Hail Mary). Take the FG right away and you still have to recover the kick and rely on a Hail Mary finish to Sutton. Of course, once Lasecki put that matador block on his guy and Davis took a sack...game was over

Yup, kick the field goal to have a chance to win on the on-sides kick :!:

Kick it as hard as you can trying to hit a middle up front Tulsa guy squarely in the head :!:

He instinctively protects his head, and deflects it up in the air which causes CHAOS :!:

We are expecting this and everybody is looking for the bounds of the ball.

SMU guy catches it in mid air, and races into the end zone for the victory :!:

My Dad SMU 50 told me about this one back in the 60s, so Matty Bell probably tried it :!:

you still would have had to score at TD with NO TIMEOUTS after an onsides kicks so about 50-55 yards. You go for the TD but throw it in the endzone

Yup, throw it up for Sutton 3 times and see what happens. Matador block by Lasecki, but the QB just can't take a sack right there.
