Is Davis hurt or something?
The last 4 games have easily been his 4 worst of the season by any statistically measure like Passing Percentage and especially Passing Efficiency
First 6 Games:
109-181 60% 11 TDs 2 Ints
Last 4 Games:
53-113 47% 5 TDs 4 Ints including 2 games with Passing % in the 30s and one in the 40s
Its not like the competition is suddenly so much better-think its unusual that all 4 of his worst games have come in last 4 games

I wondered the same thing. He's taken a beating and seems to have regressed. I never thought he saw the field very well or moved quickly through his progressions, but he seems quick to bail out of the pocket now and you don't see him stepping up while looking downfield (not that he has had many opportunities to do so). I really had hoped that in a blowout loss we would see more of Colbert, who in his brief playing time has appeared to make quick reads. Next year's QB competition should be really interesting

Maybe getting sniped every game has made him a bit skittish. I think other teams have figured out you have to knock him around early, and then bad things happen.

By this time of year, and with the hits Davis has endured, he is hurt(ing). The "new" of the season has worn off, and the Mustangs are trudging to finish the schedule. Davis is the component that has to play well for SMU to stay within spitting distance of anyone. He hasn't played well recently, and we haven't been worth the spit.
Now we get to see if the coaching staff can continue to motivate and prepare the team to compete on Saturdays. I'm betting they can.

O line has not been protecting him well so he is getting beat up. I am surprised he has held up as well as he has.

We must all remember that Davis is in reality not a very experienced QB. Yes, he got some playing time last season, but that was not enough to call him confident or experienced. Even in spring training he had to prove himself just to become the starter and learn how to throw. There might be a myriad of problems for him right now, but do not eliminate the experience factor as it remains an issue in his reactions and decision making.

he reacts after plays, like his shoulder is hurt.

Definitely after taking some shots at Navy he was working his throwing shoulder like it was hurting him. I am surprised we didn't see Colbert when he was struggling at times....the few dropped balls didn't help either though.

Gaines' drop in 4th quarter was huge at that point in the game. Did not do #23 proud on that play

Couldn't hurt to implement the 2 qb system to spell davis.
Both QBs get experience and davis makes it out of a throwaway season intact

Not sure why we aren't seeing both QBs. Davis is obviously struggling, whether injury related or not. I wonder if Colbert is injured...

Unfortunately, Gaines has had too many drops this season and his blocking has also been questionable. Kid has all the tools, but has yet to elevate his game to his incoming hype.
