FB Alumni Event in NYC/New Rule

SMU posted info online today about this year's alumni event in NYC, where the football coach traditionally meets with alumni, and I've typically taken to Twitter/PF to post real-time updates during the event — except for the years when June was entertaining other job offers or about to quit...

Last year's event was canceled, and this year's event is at a new location, The Racquet and Tennis Club. I kinda found it funny that on the RSVP page, it says, "Electronic devices may not be used while in the club."

I'm hesitant to take credit/blame for the no phones rule being implemented. After all, we are talking about a venue that's a 100-year-old social club that still enforces a men-only membership rule. But it does seem kinda odd that SMU wouldn't want alumni sharing photos and social media posts about attending the event and meeting HCCM.

That said, if this new rule is indeed enforced, fear not, I'll just have to do it the old-fashioned way, take notes on paper and report back here afterwards! :D

Is it SMU or a club rule? Lots of clubs have 'no cell phone' policies.

In fact, it seems that in order to maintain its all-male membership (which was outlawed in NYC in the 80s by Koch) the club declared that no business shall be conducted inside. Thus they somehow avoid being discriminatory.

Doesn't sound like the kind of place SMU should be having alumni events given that it is discriminatory with regards to its membership. Turner needs to seriously rethink this given the events going on at SMU.

Care to donate space and time in Manhattan? ;)

But yeah, it doesn't come across real well in the 21st century.

The Yale Club of NYC hosts events like this all the time. I am sure that they would be happy to make room for our event.

I'm sure there's a reason it's not at Yale Club this year. And I'm glad to hear that Yale Club is open to anyone who wishes to become a member.

They can have it at my place but I do not have a lot of space for parking.

They have very low standards. When I was living in the city, they even let me be a member. :D

Well I'd never want to be a member of a club that would have a PF poster as a member. Wait....
