That leaves Chad for either southern Cal or LSU

It may hurt the coaching depth of our conference short term, but American coaches filling ACC vacancies is a positive for SMU.

As long as there is chaos and we hold on to Chad, I am all for it.

Hard to see how 4 HC in 5 years can't hurt Houston.

I can't imagine a worse fit for Chad Morris than Southern Cal. Also, LSU isn't going to go for a head coach with one year of experience and a 2-10 record.

Listen to anything Morris has said about why he took the SMU job? Location. Relationships. Texas ties. None of that applies to Illinois. He wouldn't leave for that job.

I'm sure his family would love the standard of living and public schools in Champagne, Illinois. And that not-insignificant state-level income tax? Match made in heaven.

By the way, U of I does have this:

If he can win 6 or 7 games in 2016 then he will have much better options than Illinois. He's better off staying here for next season and trying to make a play for the Texas job when Strong is inevitably fired.

Plus, Illinois is so broke that it cannot pay off its Lottery winners much less invest in a premier FB program.

If Morris does well at SMU, he is in line for a 1st tier P5 job - not a 3rd tier P5 job.

Maybe Iowa State would appeal to his small town rural roots

Catfishing low end P5 jobs would be stupid for Morris at this point of his career. If he can get SMU competitive he will be in position to land a much better job than the likes of Illinois.
