Everybody's Gut feeling about us making a P5 Conference?

Been on here a long time and know we all want to get a seat at the table.. but just curious how realistic it is?
We've got the coaches, moving in the right direction (outside of the Basketball sanctions), pending IPF, upgraded facilities.. but do we really have a chance or are we just kidding ourselves?
I'm obviously hoping for the best, but what is the most likely scenario? Is Houston or Memphis seriously in a better spot than us?
Would love to hear everyone's thoughts..

............0%...............
The P5 will become the P4 with either 16 or 18 teams. Either way, we don't make the cut......

Dude, we gotta get kicked in the nuts at least 3 times before we are even allowed to win a damn NCAA basketball tournament game.
...and we're talking P5?
but at least we have the coaches, for now. and for now, yes, others are better positioned, but it can change. So, there, I took the bait...Kinda

I think highly unlikely.
IMO, the best SMU can hope for is that The American continues to bolster its reputation as the best G5 conference in both football and basketball and somehow can renegotiate a better TV deal and possibly a shot at an expanded playoff format. The playoff will be expanded to 8 or 10 in the near future so if The American can continue to keep 3-4 teams in and around the Top 25 I could see either the P5 becoming the P6 or at the very least The American gets the clear advantage among G5 conferences in gaining playoff access.
So many dominoes would have to fall perfectly aligned with vastly improved attendance and consistently winning 9 plus games a year that it would take the literal perfect storm for SMU to gain P5 access. Right now I think its clear that we are behind 6-10 G5 programs in realignment.

Golly gee whiz, I think within the next five years we are in the Big 10 because of our academics, access to state of Texas recruiting, DFW TV market and most of all the women of SMU will significantly upgrade the overall babe factor of the Big 10

If the Big12 expands this year, we are SOL because they cannot get an ACC team.
1) Houston is good and committed. Plus, they might help get back some of the Houston market lost when the Aggies left.
2) Memphis is good and committed. While the Memphis TV market isn't great, the B12 already "has" D/FW covered 3X with TCU/BU/UT.
If the Big12 waits 2-3 years, we have a shot.
1) If we are good and committed, we might be able to get the P12/B10/ACC to give us a shot.
2) We will almost certainly never make the B12.

College football will collapse under the crushing weight of student loan debt which will cause uproar and a socialist revolution which will ban the wasteful spending of money in college campuses on sports. SMU will be the only school along with other privates that will be playing so we will move to a ivy league style college football era and only the 1% will play football. SMU wins in the end.

While I know your post is in jest, I do think you'll see several G5 programs close up shop. The money just doesn't make sense long term attempting to compete with the big boys. SMU has enough deep pockets that it should survive but I think you'll see a reduction to about 90 schools playing at the "highest level" within the next decade.

IMO, close to if not Zero. Competing school's administrators and several coaches have told some of our people (boosters @ higher levels) that RGT/administration didn't get it...and we have/will be left in the cold as everyone else realized (even after we had the chance to see what TCU and Baylor were doing) that we weren't willing to commit to being a big time player. We have been lapped and laughed at. Others have zero confidence in us doing what it takes, and many don't want us, even if we were to make a late commitment now. This one stays forever wrapped around the neck of RGT.

1%.
Too little too late.
I do think we're as well positioned as we've been post-DP to be a top Go5 team w/hoops rolling and Chad starting to get to work on football.
