Tom Maason New DC at UTEP

After a short lived stop at U-Hawaii this past season ... when Norm Chow was let go mid season, the new guy brought his crew in. Coach Mason was hired this past weekend by UTEP to be their DC. ...... I wish him success.

Good for him. Didn't he used to be LB coach there?
Also good to see he has earned an extra "a" in his name.

That was another guy. I think his name was Hundley or something like that

Yeah. One guy was a DC that became a position coach and Mason was a position coach that became a DC. Or am I still off.

yep .. got a little too fast with my a's. Mason has never been at UTEP, LB coach at Fresno State before DC at SMU

I thought he was DC under Pat Hill not just Linebackers?
My good friend walked on at utep and played safety under their new staff for two years. He really liked the HC, I think he coached for the Steelers and is a utep alum. Hopefully Mason has success there and im glad to see being the interim here after JJ left wasnt a career killer for him.

The interim coach at Hawaii relieved him of his duties (and graduate assistant Stephon Sanders) this season.
Glad to see him get another shot.

I'd still love to know what that was about. Not sure I've seen/heard about it happening before.

Glad he got the position. I like Coach Mason and felt he did as good a job as possible given the crummy situation he was in.

Mason is a good man and a good coach. Hope someday he gets to coach Nevada as HC.

Tom Mason is a great guy- wish him all the best. I talked to him at an SMU bball game after his interim coaching duties were over, and you could tell he really enjoyed his time here. Warrants mentioning that while we were on that 4 bowl game streak under June, it always seemed like it was the defense that stepped up and won us games.

Bucs are hiring Southern Miss coach Todd Monken as their new offensive coordinator. Was WRs coach with Jaguars when Koetter coached there.
