SMU Football on YouTube

Someone else may have commented on this YouTube poster "Stephen Barnett." He has uploaded a huge library of sports videos including a number of complete SMU football broadcasts. I'm not sure where he found these but some were national broadcasts and some were broadcast on local Dallas TV. Here is the page with our game vs. Baylor in 1981. Lots of Pony Express and lots of games that I saw in person before I owned a VCR.

Wow, the College Football Today with a young Jim Lampley is pure gold. Love the ticker sound in the background. 15 Bowls back then!

Thanks for sharing! Of course, these teams were much more talented but the thing that jumped out at me was just how HARD these SMU teams played. Very competitive group, never giving up on plays, fighting/clawing/scrapping.

I was thinking the same thing. That was our last "Great Game" prior to the Death Penalty.

Comment on the SMU-Arkansas 82 video -
Hilarious and kind of impressive to see Lampley read about 50 scores in row from various games (including a full Ivy League slate) in about 3-4 minutes.
This game is way before my time so just seeing that happen with no highlights, just straight score updates is funny.

Interesting - Texas Stadium capacity was 65,000. Keith Jackson says at the start of the telecast there are 25,000 Arkansas fans at the game.
So for arguably the biggest home game in SMU football history our max home attendance of SMU fans was 40,000.

Also - the ABC college football theme is kinda catchy in a retro kinda way.

I would bet Arkansas had closer to 40,000 than 25,000.

Probably 50/50. Its a shame they won't play us in Dallas anymore. They bought a lot of tickets

I remember it as the loudest SMU game I ever went to :!:

My guess is 50 / 50 with the edge to SMU.

Bottom line is that SMU hasn't been able to fill a 65,000 seat stadium with a majority of those being pro-SMU since the Doak Walker era. I just want to see the day we can fill Ford Stadium with our own fans when we play against AAC schools. That's a realistic goal
