Illinois fires Cubit 5 months after they hire him

While the hire itself seemed lazy and a bit of a head-scratcher, I gotta say kinduv a [deleted] move to fire him without giving him a chance either. Gonna cost some booster almost a mil.

Surely they already have the next coach waiting in the wings, right? If not,...wow.

Apparently they are going to hire Lovie Smith.

Lovie Smith expected to become Illinois head football coach http://www.foxsports.com/college-footba ... ars-030516 via @FoxSports

Actually, that's not a bad hire.

It's the best they could have done.

Smith is a top notch coach with ties to that area, but...

The school should be ashamed at what happened. Essentially, they sent Cubit to go out there (without his knowledge) to tell a story (that he would be their coach) to recruits that they had no intention of honoring.

$985,000 for a few months work, I doubt he's too upset. He'll have another job within weeks, and if he's deserving, another head coaching opportunity in his future.

Pretty sure Digetydog's comment extends well beyond whether it was upsetting/improper toward Cubit. School should be ashamed of such moves regardless of whether Cubit lands on his feet.

But hey a little bit of money means everything's okay, right?

Boo hoo, bad bad school, break out the tiny violins. Maybe it was planned this way all along, who knows, who cares.

The fact that it appears to have been planned all along is the problem.
