Ban on new bowls for 3 years

The NCAA has approved a three-year moratorium on new bowl games, sources told ESPN.
The NCAA Division I Council's decision comes a year after there were not enough bowl-eligible teams to fill the record 41 postseason games, resulting in a record three teams with losing records earning bowl berths.
The NCAA has banned satellite camps, effective immediately, requiring FBS programs to conduct all clinics at school facilities or facilities regularly used for practice or competition.
The moratorium will not allow any new bowl games until after the 2019 regular season.
The NCAA ruling affects three cities -- Austin, Texas; Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; and Charleston, South Carolina -- that were in the process of seeking NCAA certification to add bowls in 2016.
Sources said the council will continue to "study the postseason issue" and evaluate bowl-eligibility criteria. The council also plans to determine whether the minimum requirement of a "deserving" bowl team is a winning record or finishing .500, a source said.

Dang, I was going to lobby for the UnitedHealthCare ObamaCare Bowl at Fouts Field on November 24th, 2016

Yeah, they'll both soon no longer exist.

I've always thought they should auction available bowl bids by dates and times to the highest bidder to maximize revenue to the NCAA schools. You want to play on a Saturday or on New Year's Day-how much you willing to pay-let's see your bid and best offer.? I'm fairly certain additional revenue could be obtained in this matter.

They should drop a bowl every year until only teams with winning records go to bowls. No 5-7 teams that pick up #6 in the conference championship.

I think anyone who wants to play in a bowl, get some swag, get some pub and get some extra practice should be able to. As long as it is not tax payer money funding it who is the NCAA to say only the rich should get richer?

Bitterly disappointed by the NCAA again. I was looking forward to the inaugural World Unity PC Bowl in Austin. I understand that both teams win and everyone gets a trophy.

This.

It doesn't cost me anything. I don't have to watch if I don't want to. No skin off my rear if someone wants to sponsor a game that will (likely) lose money, and the kids get (at best) a free couple of days of fun and (at worst) some additional practice.

Losers in this case are the cities that miss out on potential travel revenue. Opportunity for new visitors who may not have been to their cities before but are going now since there is a bowl game.

bowl games are almost a RICO violation. so much corruption - a few palms get greased and schools have to shell out money for tickets that no one wants in exchange for some free advertising on espn.
