Phil Bennett as Baylor interim HC

I think this deserves its own thread. The car-salesman-in-charge is apparently getting the interim HC job at Baylor.

I say "apparently" because it still isn't official. Have to wonder why?

I am sure PB is up to his neck in this mess as all but 1 of the mentioned players is a defensive player.

I consider it very possible that PB is negotiating extra $$$ or extra years. If I were PB, I would demand interim tag be taken off and given an extra year or two under the argument that he can't recruit with an interim tag.

Unfortunately, I think Baylor knows PB is all over this and is just hoping to get through next 6 months without more scandal so they can start fresh.

Regardless, this is a no win situation. If they win, PB gets zero credit except for holding it together. If they lose, sucks.

Start over now or start over later... Baylor has to decide.

He'll be head coach for a few weeks until the full report leaks on the internet.

PB is the one who told the room of boosters that he expected the soon to be convicted sexual assailant to be playing that fall. That's what helped kick off the Texas Monthly investigation, which led to the OTL investigations.

I hope we demolish Phil and his non-existent defense.

Agreed...how in the heck does Baylor think they can just have Briles hand off the reins to this guy as the next Baylor football head coach? The "bleeding" will continue as long as Baylor decision makers continue trying to avoid fully owning up to this unmitigated disaster. Baylor fans you got a pretty new stadium, some good memories, but admit it...your party is now OVER.

Maybe it's just that Baylor needs someone with HC experience to man the breach while they get a plan together.

I'll be shocked if PB is their coach in September...the report makes it seem like multiple members of the coaching staff were at least aware of what was going on, if not worse...hard to think PB's head could have been in the sand, especially considering most of the players implicated were defensive players

But could it qualify as more "football" that PB has forgotten than any of us will ever know?

I am still waiting for the 6/3 press conference. Right now they are just seeing if they can keep their class together and it looks like they are losing.

Yep, that's what I don't understand.

Baylor supposedly has all the facts in front of them. They have to realize there will be extraordinary focus on them from the national media in part because they are a conservative Christian school located in Texas.

Optically not only retaining PB but promoting him sends the wrong message. It also appears to contradict the firing of AB or say, 'AB knew but PB didn't', which I find hard to believe.

I see this as another sound bite attorneys will use against 'clueless' Baylor when they seek damages.

Terrible move IMO, unless I am missing something.
