"If you were to buy a stock in a program in Texas right now, you would be hard pressed to find a better value than SMU. I think they're really on the way up."

Good pub. I hope CM stays a long time. Certainly on the way up. 2017 will be very interesting. I love Matt Davis but I don't know about the "obviously you have a great QB in Matt Davis" statement.

Obviously, Tepper has a very loose definition of "great".

Didn't have to read past his first answer to realize the clown doesn't know squat:
"Matt Davis is a 'great' quarterback, and Hicks is lurking on the depth chart."

Maybe he believes Davis would be much better if he played behind a line whose photos aren't found on the back of milk cartons.

Uh, Matt Davis is the best, most athletic player on this team. Courtland is a close second, but someone has to throw the ball to him. Give me a solid OL and I want the ball in Matt Davis's hands, running/passing whatever. Does he make the best decisions in the world? No, but he's the closest thing to a "special" player that we have. (with Courtland right there w him)

Yeah let's go ahead and judge Hicks based on one spring game performance. Pathetic. Your kid is not even in the qb depth chart.

It's not the o-line's fault that Davis has lousy QB skills.

Never understood all the hate Davis gets on here....no, he's not a future NFL draft pick, he has accuracy issues and makes mistakes at inopportune times, but he was playing behind a lousy OL with true freshman RBs and just one consistent receiving target all year in Sutton (who ran pretty much one route).
We are 0-12 without Davis last year, and if we'd had a halfway competent defense we have a chance of beating TCU, JMU, ECU, Houston, Tulsa, and Temple...we averaged 34 points in those games.
I think a (hopefully) improved OL this year, along with Proche and Honey coming on board will help Davis immensely. I worry about where we'll be at QB in 2017 when he's gone if it's Hicks, Colbert, and two freshmen being the options.

Ditto. I think part of the problem is that we haven't had a run first QB on the Hilltop in well over a decade. they are looking for Gilbert 2.0 and Davis is closer to Ward 2.0. He is easily an above average running QB.

Not sure what all the whining is about? Davis is a good leader and a great RUNNING QB. Would be a stretch to say that he's even a good QB when you add the throwing and decision making ability.
Hicks is Neal Burcham Jr.
Great observation that 2017 is the real worry with Hicks, Colbert, and the 2 freshmen being the only options (outside of some late miracle transfer possibly). Like Brewer and McBride a couple years into the system, but very tough for true freshman QB's. The QB position alone will make or break the 6 win bowl season dream in 2017.

I think/hope Matt will make a considerable leap this year. He too was learning a new system last year, and a guy like Proche who can get open over the middle of the field should take some pressure off of him. I also think Corey Rau can come in and contribute early at TE
