REPORT: BAYLOR ISN’T RELEASING INCOMING FRESHMEN FROM NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT

"On Wednesday night FOX Sports spoke to Collis Cobb, the father of one of those seven players, Parrish Cobb, a highly regarded cornerback. The elder Cobb told FOX that they filed to get his son’s release from his LOI on Saturday, two days after Briles was let go, and someone in Baylor’s compliance office told him they weren’t willing to do it. Baylor has a 30-day deadline to respond to each recruit’s request for a release and without that release, the recruit is not allowed to have any contact with another school."

My understanding is that they won't let them out until they've met with the new coaching staff. As one other person already said, it's like the old comcast cancellation runaround.

I think 1 or 2 have gotten their release granted within the last 24 hours.

If they don't release the recruits at least the lawyers working for Baylor will get additional job security!

one of those was on a technicality as Baylor failed to file the recruit's LOI with the NCAA. Not sure how that happens, though.

The NCAA will probably have the final word on this.

yeah but not until after its relevant to these kids. They can just not report and sign with somebody else for the 2017 season. They need a waiver to play in 2016

While I support Baylor chaos as much as anyone, and I would be thrilled if Baylor released everyone to go elsewhere, other than "optics", if I were in Baylor's shoes, I wouldn't release anyone.

You can talk about being deceived by the culture and not knowing what was in the Report all you want. However, that is what the recruiting process and official visits are for. Kids are lied to in recruiting all the time. That, alone, is not a good reason to release anyone.

I am not aware of a situation where players were released from scholarships and letters of intent and permitted to sign elsewhere absent announced NCAA sanctions that included postseason bans. To date, we have no information that is coming down the pipe.

What these kids/parents are really upset about is the coach is gone and they think the program is going to go downhill fast and next year they are going to suck and they will have 3 coaches in 3 years. They are almost certainly right. Unfortunately, I don't recall players being granted a release for a coaching change under any circumstance. The most analogous situation I recall, absent NCAA postseason bans, is Arkansas firing Petrino in April 2012. I don't recall anyone being granted a release then or anybody arguing they should.

You are right. However in the case of Arkansas, everyone really thought John L Smith was the perfect one year replacement. Turned out to be one of the worst hires in all of mankind.
