http://www.commercialappeal.com/sports/ ... 23321.htmlOne would think SMU was one of the other 2 AAC schools?

I have to believe we made the cut to 8. Now we need to make sure we use all resources and influence we can possibly muster to close the deal!
Yet sadly, being a longtime SMU fan, I am preparing for more dissapointment and heartbreak...

Curious as to why name all the AAC schools and then say 2 more. I would limit our chances very much and would think the best scenario, if they do expand would be the UConn, BYU football only deal. I could live with that.

Because SMU is a private school, we are not subject to Freedom of Information Act requests. Thus, I am hoping that is why we weren't named.
Tulane - Private
ECU - Public
Temple - Quasi-Public - I am not sure if they are subject to FOI guidelines.

Why on earth would the B12 add in UCONN as a football only member (from the article) while they go to the Big East in all other sports? If that is what they want, we should be making that pitch to them. Add SMU as football only and we can find a home in some other conference that is willing to take us.
A foot in the door is better than nothing at all.

The football only thing might work because -> BYU's unwillingness to play games on Sunday causes serious scheduling/travel issues for non-revenue sports. If they still wanted BYU for football only, UConn probably has the easiest time finding a home for everything else.
If we joined the B12 for football only, our options for our other sports (some of which we have invested millions in) might be pretty bleak - (Would the AAC or CUSA agree to take us?)

Assuming the two unmentioned schools are private, my guess is SMU plus Tulsa or Tulane. The New Orleans and Tulsa TV markets are about the same. Tulsa has a better sports program, but Big 12 fans may want a reward for the trips to Waco, Lubbock, Manhattan, Lawrence, Morgantown, Stillwater, Ames, and possibly Provo.

Waco, Lubbock, Manhattan, Lawrence, Morgantown, Stillwater, Ames, and possibly Provo = road trip from Hell.

I thought Tulsa and Navy were the only two that didn't apply

Looking at men's and women's combined, UConn is the best basketball school in the country. To suggest the big 12 isn't interested in UConn basketball suggests to me that the 'journalist' that wrote this story is full of [deleted].

They already said this is for all sports. Rumor is BYU looking at several big changes to comply with requests or address issues (like the myriad of title IX issues) that might have been the reason previous expansions left them out.

Only chance for us is if Florida schools aren't both picked. They won't go in for one...they are a package deal. UCONN is a really long haul and doesn't really bring the NY market. If they want 2, it's between UC, BYU and UH. If they want 4, we really have a good chance.
It's time for Turner to really show he wants you be put on a pedestal as the best SMU president. If he pulls this off, he might just get there.

Why did you put journalist in dismissive quotes?
