Grant Teaff Show Highlites (good job Grant-you showed ALL the Highlites unlike some coaches shows)

One of the most memorable (and devastating) games in my life

Key Turnaround Game in SMU History as Mike Ford fumbles on 4th and 1 inside the 10 in closing seconds-a lackluster showing the next week against UH at home led to the emergence of Lance McIllhenny and the true Pony Express. SMU blew a 21 point lead-the losing team blew a 20+ lead in this series about 4-5 times during a 12 year stretch in this series which from about 1974-1986 was the hottest, most highly contested in the SWC. Baylor is SMU's true rival to those who lived through that period. TCU mmh

Bonus for Mrydel: a Ponyte Touchdown

Numerous All-Americans played in this game

Mike Singletary-I think he made almost 30 tackles in this game
Walter Abercombie
Eric Dickerson
Craig James
Michael Carter
Harvey Armstrong
John Simmons
Russell Carter

This was a great young team learning how to win-the hard way

It was one of the best games I have ever seen. The visual memory of Mike Ford crying after the game is still saddening. So close.

How about '78 game where Ford brings SMU back in the second half to beat Baylor

or Don King's 3 TDs in 1984 in about final 6 minutes in a driving torrential rain storm in Waco for the improbable comeback victory

or Chuck Benefield's 4 TD passes in 1975 in come back win in which SMU trailed 23-0 at Half

or the 1982 where Singletary and gang played slobberknocker all nite on the Pony Express (97 yards on 44 attempts) only to be bailed out by two bombs by Lance McIllhenny in a 19-17 SMU victory

or 1986 when Jimmy Young (?) pulled off a opening kickoff reverse for a TD and SMU won at the wire 27-21-think there was a huge 2Q rain storm during this game too

Here's a summary of only about half of the Classics during that 12 year stretch-and that's doesn't even include a great comeback Baylor wins in about 1979 and 1985 that were keys to Top 20 seasons-both 3 point wins by the Bears. Whoever won this game generally was headed to a Top 20 ranking in most of those years

that's 6 of the most memorable SWC games during that era-in one series

Could still be a rivalry if we beat them on Saturday and later get in the Big 12.

Don't forget the long td run by fullback Jed Martin in that 1986 game, maybe 60 yards?

That was the highest scoring game (individual performance) I ever played. The BU DEs played a pinching outside position (completely outside the TE's shoulder). One DE wasn't too bright and I kept taking bigger and bigger spits. He continued to line up as coached and we had a natural off tackle running play all night long. The other DE adjusted when I took too big a split so I had to play him honest.

Doak Field, the BU strong outside LB, was a nasty unsportsmanlike character. I take pride in knowing when I blocked him he never made a tackle. We had more than one fumble by Ford in that game that cost potential TDs so it wasn't all down to that 4th and 1 play.

Soak Field is a perfect example of Saint Grunt Taeff. Pious to the public but without scruples in practice.

That touchdown was against TCU in the Cotton Bowl.

Always thought Teaff squeaky clean reputation was BS - same with Briles - only Briles got exposed.
