Matt Davis Appreciation Thread

Coach confirmed he's out for the season with an ACL tear, which completely sucks.

He sat behind Johnny Football on the bench at aTm. He could have gone/stayed other places but chose to jump from JC a year and join SMU and bought in full throttle. I know many have complained he can't throw, isn't tall enough, blah-blah-blah. He's a wonderfully smart kid with a generous heart, and put in a ton of hard work for the team and the school. He provided some really exciting moments in a short amount of time.

Even if not granted another year of eligibility, he will always be one of my favorite Mustangs.

He's a hell of an athlete and tough as nails. Hopefully he gets that 6th year and gets moved to a position that better suits his talents.

under what scenario would he NOT get another year. That seems obvious to me.

he has to show he missed more than 1 year due to injury in 2 separate years. Apparently did miss some time at Tyler JC but not sure of details

"Davis landed at Tyler JC where he attempted just 53 passes completing 30 in four games."

I was referring to the fact that Keenan got seven years of college football and it is final year let Houston to a top 15 finish

If he has played his last collegiate game, at least he went out a winner and was a big part of SMU's beating UNT for the 1st time ever in Denton

First of all, I wish for Davis what I do of any player who got hurt and that is a good recovery whether or not he plays ball again. One report earlier was that hi injury would take longer than a year for recovery / rehabilitation and if that is true we may not see him on the field again anywhere. If he can take advantage of the SMU degree and contacts perhaps we will hear of him down the road as a coach or in business and again, I wish him success. If for no other reason than the transfer and waiting he did for chance to play - to say nothing of the convalescence he now faces - I'm not so sure he would embrace a change of position, at SMU or elsewhere. I would understand a second transfer.

Again, I hope he makes a good recovery and we'll go from there. Certainly we can remember him for what Charleston Pony said, but there was more.

ACL tears usually do not take that long to heal - was there another injury as well?

Best of luck in recovery Matt!
