West Named To AAC Weekly Honor Roll
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AAC/SMU) – SMU sophomore running back Braeden West was named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, the league office announced Monday.
The Katy, Texas, native helped lead the Mustangs to a 29-14 victory Saturday against Liberty to win its first home opener since 2012. West put together a spectacular performance against the Flames in week three, rushing for a career-high 220 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries, including a career-long 66-yard TD run, the longest run for SMU since 2012.
His 220-yard rushing performance against the Flames ranks fifth in program history and is currently tied for the fifth-best rushing total in an FBS game this season and is the best for a player in The American. His 9.2 YPC average for the game is the sixth best in FBS this season (min: 20 attempts).
SMU is 2-1 for the first time since 2011 and has won six of its last nine home openers.
SMU is back in action Friday night, Sept. 23 when the Mustangs welcome crosstown rival TCU to Ford Stadium for the Battle For The Iron Skillet. Kickoff Friday night is set for 7 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on ESPN. Tickets can be purchased online at smumustangs.com/tickets or by calling 214-768-4263.
