Plays offensive tackle for the Jacksonville Jaguars

Former SMU football player and Jacksonville Jaguar, Kelvin Beachum is creating an important impact, both on and off the field. Most recently he was featured by the NFL for his work in Mexico and Central America in a video celebrating National Hispanic Month. Those who knew him during his years on the Hilltop are not surprised by his determination.

In his five years of athletic eligibility at SMU, Beachum earned a Bachelor’s degree in economics in 2011, a Master’s degree in liberal studies in 2012 and was named to the Conference-USA All-Academic team. He also started in 52 consecutive Mustang football games and was named the best offensive lineman in Texas by Dave Campbell’s 2011-2012 Texas Football magazine. The day after he earned his Master's degree and presented the Commencement address at SMU's Simmons School of Education and Human Development, he returned to rookie camp with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Beachum remains a familiar face at SMU, most recently he was a keynote speaker last spring at Simmons School conference, "Black Excellence in Higher Education." He also headlined a human rights presentation, "A Conversation on Sports and Human Rights."
